Baldur's Gate Wiki

A Potion of Invulnerability bestows defensive resistances temporarily upon the imbiber, lasting 1-hour (5 turns).

This item appears in all games.

Description[]

This potion confers very high resistance to all attacks while giving bonuses to all Saving Throws. The effects of the elixir last for 1 hour but can only be used by warriors.

Gameplay[]

Quaffing this potion will instantly apply a potential boost to the imbiber's defensive values - a sound effect is audibled when first drunk, as well as a brief lighting effect, color fade, and a "gulp" text string.

An icon is placed on the consumer's portrait titled "Invulnerable".

When the potion expires a second sound effect will audible signifying the end of the potion's effects.

The potion provides the following effects:

This potion can be removed with any applicable Dispel Magic effect.

If the imbiber's base armor class is already better than 0, then this potion won't improve it or make it worse.

This potion has no restriction placed on it to prevent "stacking" for additive saving throw bonuses, although that wouldn't be allowed by rule in the Advanced D&D 2E ruleset, but it is allowed in the BG video game.

Trivia[]

The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition ruleset "Potion of Invulnerability" is detailed in the Dungeons Masters Guide (DMG).

The PnP potion functions in a different manner and duration than the BG video game version.

This potion confers immunity to non-magical weapons. It also protects against attacks from creatures (not characters) with no magical properties or fewer than 4 Hit Dice. Thus, an 8th-level character without a magical weapon could not harm the imbiber of an invulnerability potion.

The potion also improves Armor Class rating by 2 classes and gives a bonus of +2 to saving throws vs. all forms of attack.
