The Potion of Freedom bestows the imbiber with various immunities to effects that hinder or change natural action and movement, magically or not.

Description[]

This potion acts like the spell free action when consumed. The drinker becomes completely immune to any effects which hinder action or movement whether this is magical in origin or not. The duration of the potion is 10 turns.

Gameplay[]

A user that consumes one of these potions is conferred with immunity to quite a number of Status Effects for a 2-hour duration.

The potion is best considered to be a preventive measure to guard against unwanted effects that limit free movement and action - unlike the spell, which can serve as a preventive measure, but in many cases a cure for status effects as well.

For obvious reason, this potion isn't ideally used to cure movement hindering effects (such as Web, Hold Person, and Grease) - because the affected person can't actually perform the act of imbibing the potion in order to cure the ill effect while Held, or paralyzed.

When the potion is quaffed, the combat log displays a text reading "gulp" - and a player character will display an icon (No. 10) titled "Free Action" on their portrait while the potion is active.

Additionally, the potion user will have a lighting effect and brief color glow rendered over the character's sprite, as well as a sound effect that is audibled upon drinking the potion, and another when the potion expires.

The following immunities are provided by the potion:

Spells[]

Status effects[]

Other effects[]

  • Movement modifier is set to 100%
  • Stun is removed and cured (but not prevented, but is a moot point, since a Stunned person can't use a potion)
  • Hold/paralysis is cured, but that is moot as well as it is already prevented by the potion.

The potion also ensures that blocked status effect icons don't render on the character portrait, as well as various "String references" that allude to those immunities, such as "Hasted", "Slowed" or "Held" etc.

Note that the potion will set a character's movement modifier to 100%, meaning the base value of the character is maintained with no bonuses or penalties. This means that a movement boosting item, like The Paws of the Cheetah won't provide any bonus movement while the potion is active.

A character who has this potion active cannot be buffed with a Haste, Improved Haste, or an Oil of Speed either. The potion blocks those from working.

However, if the Haste effect boosting spells/effects are already present and active on the character before drinking the potion of freedom, then they'll still work normally, but no new applications can be made once the potion is imbibed.

The potion's immunities can be removed with a Dispel Magic effect, but unlike the Free Action (spell), a Breach won't touch the potion's powers.
