Baldur's Gate Wiki

Potions of Explosions create a fireball when thrown.

Description[]

This potion is a vial of pain as it will explode into a burning ball of fire upon impact. Keep it in a safe place lest ye meet an untimely end.

Gameplay[]

This potion is placed in a user's "Quick Item" slot - select the item and then use the cursor to designate a point on the area map where the potion will be "thrown" at - this point is the center of the potion's explosive 15-feet radius area of effect.

Once the cursor is "clicked" or selected a fireball projectile (No. 38) rapidly travels to the designated point and explodes, potentially exposing all creatures in the area of effect to the fireball.

The fireball inflicts 6d6 Fire damage to each creature, although a Saving throw versus Spell is allowed to halve the damage.

Magic resistance can potentially block this damage, as can a Minor Globe of Invulnerability.

Additionally, the potion's effects belong to no spell school or secondary magic type and can't be blocked by Spell Immunity or the Cloak of Mirroring.
