This page is about the Pocket Plane ability. For the area with the same name, refer to Pocket Plane (area).
Gorion's Ward acquires the ability to open travel to and from the Pocket Plane early in the Baldur's Gate II Chapter 8 of Throne of Bhaal campaign. This ability can be used any time the player is not in battle.
This ability provides a quick way return to the pocket plane area from other locations.
When the ability is selected from the Ward's "Special Abilities" menu - it automatically ensures that all current party members will dimension travel as a group - however, when the party exits the pocket plane to return to this area - all the party members are placed in the exact position they were when the ability was initially used, meaning that if the party was scattered about the map, perhaps hundreds of feet away from each other - then this will be the same exact situation when travelling back.
Description[]
| “ | This ability returns <CHARNAME>'s entire party to the pocket plane. | ” |
Aquisition[]
Upon successful completion of the first challenge - "Retribution" - which is set up and introduced via dialogue with Sarevok Anchev in the pocket plane area - then the ability is automatically added to the Ward's character file for use as a special ability.
Gameplay[]
The Pocket Plane ability always has 1 "charge" showing on the Special Abilities menu - use of it doesn't change it to zero or require a rest period to get the ability back - it's always set at 1.
When the ability is used, there is a 2 second delay, and then the party will show a brief 3D graphic effect rendered on each party member's sprite, along with a sound effect, then there will be a "fade to black" screen, and the party is then shown materializing in the Pocket Plane (area).
When ready to travel again, exit/transition through the pocket plane's Exit "toothy" portal gate - and the party will quickly be transported back to the exact area it was when they travelled to the pocket plane initially, or there may be other destinations available depending on the progress made so far in the campaign.
The innate pocket plane spell is designated with a "Not in combat" type flag, and therefore won't function during a battle, although the Ward may attempt to do so, which is a waste of time/action.
The ability is also flagged with a no Line-of Sight and No failure designators, so being made deaf, mute or under miscast magic/spell failure effects won't prevent its use - however, the spell might be affected by a "Wild Surge" if applicable, but that needs additional testing [verification needed].
