Baldur's Gate Wiki

Pixie Prick +3 is an enchanted Dagger available only during a specific quest line during the Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn or Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition games.

Description[]

The Pixie Prick almost appears to be a toy, so fine and delicate is the workmanship of the blade and handle. Yet when wielded and the command word 'Sleep' is intoned, the tiny dagger glows with a blue nimbus. Upon striking an opponent the Pixie Prick releases a surge of powerful magic, potentially inducing a deep slumber. Legends say that the ancient sprite knight, Alfonso de Noble wielded the Pixie Prick, not as a dagger but as a two handed sword.

Gameplay[]

This dagger is a +3 enchanted blade that provides a 3-point THAC0 bonus and inflicts 1d4+3 Piercing damage - the weapon has a reach range of 0, and a Speed Factor of 0.

Any successful hit on a target exposes the creature to a potential Unconsciousness effect - although a Saving throw versus Death will negate this.

If the saving throw is failed, the victim will fall to the ground and be Helpless for 2 rounds - and a brief golden lighting effect is rendered on the victim's sprite along with a sound effect.

The victim will not awaken if they are damaged while they are unconscious/asleep.

This effect can't be blocked by Magic resistance or any Spell protections type defense - elves and half elves also receive their innate sleep resistance check to the Pixie Prick's slumber inducing effect.

The effect can be removed with any applicable Dispel Magic source.

Obviously, creatures that are immune to the unconsciousness effect won't be affected by the dagger's special power at all.

Notes[]

In the original Shadows of Amn game version, the sleep effect saving throw had a 6-point bonus to resist, and the effect wasn't coded to allow elves and half elves their racial sleep resistance.
