The Pit of the Faithless is at the bottom of a hole accessed from the Cult Compound in the The Old Tunnels, where people failing to survive the removal of their eyes are dumped.

The steady supply of corpses has led to an infestation of mummies, zombies and ghasts, but also to a civilized society, complete with a mayor called Theshal. These undead have given up on the living as a source of nutrition... that is, until they see and "sssmellsss" Gorion's Ward and Companions.

After battling a few undead, you might spot a neutral talking Zombie (910.1225) who is surprised to see "Living onesss?" After he spots you, he shambles off to the northwest to inform the mayor.

"What isss thisss? What isss thisss? Living onesss? Here? I mussst tell the mayor!!"

An exit to the east (2125.690) is labeled "The Pit of the Faithless" on the player's map and leads to the Beholder Hideout where several beholders and gauths, a number of blind priests, and a mastermind beholder referred to as the Unseeing Eye reside.

Behind you, (1570.1890) where you entered, the map is labeled "To the Cult Compound", however you cannot leave from here. Clicking on the area only gives you the status message: The pit above is too steep to climb back up. Numerous corpses lie below that have been picked clean.

Ahead of you there are bridges to landings and two ramshackle buildings to the northwest and northeast, both with doorways leading to Ghoul Town:

  • Northwest: This crude dwelling is perched precariously over the abyss below.
  • Northeast: This structure is surrounded by the stench of decay and filth.
