Physical Mirror creates an invisible disk that reflects successful missile attacks against the caster back to the sender. It is very similar to the Reflection Shield.

Description[]

Physical Mirror
This spell causes a localized folding of space. The folded space takes the form of an invisible disk that protects the caster. Any missile weapon that intersects this disk is instantaneously reversed in direction. Melee factors such as speed, range, and damage are unaffected; the direction of the object or force is simply rotated through a 180-degree arc. The sender of the missile finds himself the target of his own attack. The caster of the mirror may direct missile attacks normally through the space occupied by the mirror.

In addition, the following NPC-only attacks are also reflected:

Differences with the Reflection Shield[]

  • In Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, the only reflecting differences between Physical Mirror and the Reflection Shield are that only the mirror is able to catch Melf's Acid Arrow, whereas only the shield catches Angelo's arrow and all 7 of Eagle Eye's attacks.
  • In the original Baldur's Gate II, the differences are that only the mirror is able to catch Arrow of Ice, missiles from Tansheron's Bow and Melf's Acid Arrow, whereas only the shield catches Arrow of Fire, Firetooth's bolts, Bolt of Lightning, the spell Flame Arrow, a Fallen Solar's arrows, Angelo's arrow and all 7 of Eagle Eye's attacks.
  • While the Reflection Shield is only available in Baldur's Gate II, a Druid can become high enough level to use Physical Mirror in Siege of Dragonspear, The Black Pits and of course The Black Pits II: Gladiators of Thay. New attacks can be reflected in these games.

Bugs[]

  • When many reflexible projectiles hit Physical Mirror in quick succession, only one is thrown back, while the rest are simply deflected and negated. Which one it is and whether it is sent back to the right creature is unclear.
  • In the original edition, Physical Mirror may not reflect projectiles but instead only deflect them. The circumstances for this bug are unknown, but reloading saves is known to 'reroll' whether the game will be in a bugged state or not. The game may also bug, unbug, or rebug itself randomly.

TODO[]

  • Add reflected attacks from The Black Pits I & II.
  • Verify that information provided is accurate in the original edition of BG2.

Spell Revisions mod has changed this arcane spell, revising its effects, duration and description. See below for description:

Physical Mirror
Level: 6
School: Alteration
Sphere: Numbers
Range: Personal
Duration: 2 turns
Casting Time: 6
Area of Effect: Special
Saving Throw: None

This spell causes a localized folding of space. The folded space takes the form of an invisible disk that protects the caster but also distorts his appearance as if a mirrored image of the caster traveled alongside him. Any missile attack that intersects the disk is instantaneously deflected, while there is a 50% chance that a melee attacker will attack the mirrored image and a 50% chance that he will attack the caster.

Note: This spell is usable by Cleric/Paladin classes only.
Note:The SR spell now provides protective properties against missile and melee attacks.
