Baldur's Gate Wiki

Phoenix Guards are hostile humanoids encountered in Nashkel (after being summoned by Daer'Ragh) and on Labyrinth Level Three of Durlag's Tower.

Gameplay[]

True to their name, they are capable of rising indefinitely after being killed, though the odds of them doing so are dependent on the circumstances in which they are encountered. If they fail their attempt to reincarnate, they will unleash a fiery blast similar to a Fireball from their corpse, dealing 5d6+5 fire damage. There is no saving throw against this explosion and Minor Globe of Invulnerability will not block damage.

Creatures and Locations:[]

  • PHEOARCH.cre: Female encountered in Nashkel and Durlag's Tower
  • PHEOGURD.cre: Male encountered in Nashkel
  • PHOENIX.cre: Male encountered in Durlag's Tower
    • The PHEOARCH & PHEOGURD creatures are the weakest of the bunch, and have a 1/2 chance of rising when killed with all of their original properties maintained.
    • The PHOENIX creature has six times as many hit points, a better THACO by 6, and a better AC by 10. The creature has a 7/10 chance of rising when killed, but will rise as a PHEOGURD creature and is thus significantly weaker on subsequent lives.
    • The PHEOARCH creature only has a 1/10 chance of rising, but will retain her original strength on subsequent lives, making her potentially the most troublesome of the two if the player gets unlucky.
