Phantom Blade creates a blade-shaped construct of magical force extending from the fingers of one of the wizard's hands.
Description[]
“ | Phantom Blade This spell creates a translucent, shadow-like, weightless area of magical force extending from the fingers of one of the the caster's hands. This silent construct is blade-shaped. Its cutting edges inflict damage just as do those of a real sword. The caster wields the phantom blade as if proficient with this weapon, at his normal THAC0. The phantom blade acts as a +3 magical sword in terms of hit and damage bonuses as well as the type of creatures it can hit. However, due to its etheric nature, it causes an extra +10 damage against undead. This sword can only be used by the caster and remains in his hand for the duration or until dispelled. |

Gameplay[]
The caster receives a magically created item (see second InfoBox) that is automatically placed in the main hand weapon slot, for the duration of the spell or until it is dispelled.
During its existence, the magical weapon cannot be moved from the main hand slot.
A Dispel Magic effect applied to the wielder can destroy this blade.
No weapon proficiency affects this weapon (only fighting styles, such as single weapon style, do).
In BG2EE, most magical weapons let you dual wield without a THAC0 penalty, making two weapon fighting style redundant when using this spell.
Moreover, while dual wielding, the effects of single weapon style apply to both weapons, meaning both main and offhand weapons score critical hits on attack rolls of 19 or higher. The +2 AC bonus, however, only applies once.
Modifiers from the wielder's strength attribute apply to both to-hit and rolled damage.
Any creature with the Undead classification that is struck by this blade will suffer an additional +10 Slashing damage.

Notes[]
In the original Baldurs Gate this weapons category is longsword and is affected by things like the elf race trait +1 bonus to longswords and long sword proficiencies.
The created weapon's on-hit anti-undead damage bonus is of the Offensive damage type — blockable by the Cloak of Mirroring.

Spell Revisions mod has changed this arcane spell, revising its effects, duration and school. See below for description:
Phantom Blade
Level: 5
School: Illusion
Range: Personal
Duration: 1 round/level
Casting Time: 5
Area of Effect: Special
Saving Throw: None
This spell creates a translucent, weightless, shadowlike sword made of material from the Plane of Shadow that extends 3 feet from the caster’s hand. The caster wields the phantom blade as if it was a long sword but he suffers no penalty for non-proficiency. The sword deals 1d12+4 points of magic damage to its victims, and an additional 10 points of magical damage against undead creatures. Due to its ethereal nature, strength bonuses do not apply, but attacks with the phantom blade are considered melee touch attacks, and thus gain a +4 bonus to hit. Furthermore, a successful strike temporarily scrambles magic, causing any spells the target casts in the next round to fail (save vs. spell at a -4 penalty negates). The blade is considered to be of +4 enchantment when determining what it can hit, but it cannot harm inorganic things because it has no solid existence. The phantom blade can only be used by the caster and remains in his/her hand for the duration of the spell or until dispelled.
