Peridan, also known as Dragonslayer, is an enchanted long sword appearing in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, and as early as Chapter 2.
Description[]
| “ | Long sword +2: Dragonslayer (Peridan) Few dare to create items such as this, for who does not fear the wrath of dragons, and what action would more tempt their reckoning? Yet, at a time lost in Faerun's past, there was a need, and this sword was forged in answer. Tempered by a wizard's skill, this blade protects the wielder from the fear they should rightly feel while staring down a dragon's maw. It also bolsters with regeneration, dispels the trickery of illusions, and dares to do double damage against the greatest creatures of the Realms. |

Acquisition[]
The blade can be found in a section of the Firkraag's Maze area, which is only accessible when accepting the Samia's Proposal side quest from Samia herself. The Dragon Scale Shield is found at the same place.
Gameplay[]
The sword is a +2 Enchanted item and will inflict 1d8+2 Slashing damage with every successful hit and also bestows a 2-point bonus to THAC0. The wielder's Strength attribute can modify the to-hit and damage values.
When striking a creature with the race dragons, the blade inflicts an additional 1d8+2 slashing damage.
Additionally, equipping this sword provides the following to the wielder:
- Immunity to the Panic effect (fear, horror) etc.
- Morale won't break and is reset to default value.
- Regeneration effect healing 1 Hit point per turn.
Peridan also provides one "charge" of a special sword-only "Detect Invisibility" power that can be activated with the "Use Item" menu button and selecting the Detect invisibility icon.
The user selects a point on the current area map within 10 feet where the desired divination will radiate from, use the targeting cursor and click the spot.
Once activated, the invisibility detecting magic is instantly released in a 15-feet radius, and it affects nonparty creatures in the area - The user will show a divination graphic render on their sprite and each nonparty creature will show a brief color glow, and any under the effects of a State: Invisibility have that state "cured" and removed and are thus made visible. As this is a Power level 0 spell effect, nothing can resist this except for Spell immunity: Divination.
The sword can recharge this power after a standard rest period.
Notes[]
- The bonus damage to dragons such as from Strength, Weapon Proficiency or most buff spells will not add to the extra slashing damage applied.
- In the original edition of BGII only, Peridan removes two layers from a dragon's Stoneskin in a single hit.
