Oublek is the local "vital relations link". He pays bounties to adventurers who complete side quests for him.
When you first speak to him, he assumes you are the bounty hunter Greywolf, come to collect your reward. How you deal with this mistake affects your future interactions with Oublek.
If you kill Oublek after delivering the emeralds, his inventory will correctly include the emeralds but have 300 fewer gold pieces. If you took the reward claiming to be Greywolf, he will have 200 fewer gold pieces.

Notes[]
- If Gorion's Ward happens to actually be named Greywolf, this fact is not acknowledged and dialogue remains unchanged, though the conversation is perhaps slightly more confusing to read.
- To get his substantial amount of gold without a reputation loss, he can be easily killed as a collateral damage by a fireball during the fight with Daer'Ragh.

Dialogue[]
On first meeting:[]
"No, say not another word. I would not think of making you wait but a moment for your just reward. When council told me that they procured GREYWOLF to rid the woods of bandit Tonquin, I knew we could expect swift justice. I would not have predicted success this quickly, but who else could it be striding into town looking, ah, looking as you do? Please accept this meager sum of 200 gold pieces, as well as the heartfelt thanks of all of Nashkel."
1: Uhhh, YES! Yes, I would be Greywolf. That's me all right. None other than Greywolf. I'll take that reward because... of what I di! I'm Greywolf and I deserve it! Thank you. "Excellent doing business with you, Greywolf. We shall not hesitate to call upon you if any other thieving miscreants make their presence known."
2: You must have made some mistake. I am not this Greywolf. Keep your money, it's not mine to take. "You are not Greywolf the bounty hunter? Oh, sweet Helm, I almost gave 200 gold pieces to a complete stranger?! The captain best not hear of this; he'd have my hide. Thanks be for your honesty, stranger. There are those who would not have done as such."
If claimed to be Greywolf:[]
"Best you state your business and go!"
1: I've come to turn in a bounty and collect the reward that is duly mine. "You'll have no reward here, you thievin' scoundrel! The Captain chewed my head off over you! It's only because you did us this service that I don't have you thrown in the stocks! Get out of my sight!"
2: What do you do here, exactly? "I have neither time nor will to deal with you today."
If rejected the money:[]
"Ahh, my fine and honest friend. What can I do for you today?"
1: What do you do here, exactly? "Me? Why, I am what binds the guard to the public! A vital relations link, I am. Indispensable."
- 1: I see. And I would get that same response if I spoke with your commanding officer? "I fail to see how this is relevant to anything. Please return when you have something worth my time."
- 2: How COULD I have thought otherwise? Of COURSE you are. "Harrumph! If you insist on being confrontational I have nothing more to say to you. Come back when you have something worth my attention."
- 3: A more fanciful load of horse droppings I have never heard in my life! "What? How dare you question mu duly-appointed, middle-management power! I'll... I'll..."
- 1: Drown me in paperwork? Begone, stooge. You are beneath my notice. "Harrumph! If you insist on being confrontational I have nothing more to say to you. Come back when you have something worth my attention."
- 2: There is no need to get your shorts in a knot. I was merely jesting with you. "You have not the charm to carry this irreverent attitude. Mayhaps your insults should cost ye a portion of your earnings, I think a portion of the bounties you retrieve will do nicely. I may not be truly important, but I am not to be dismissed."
- 3: My sincerest apologies. I don't know what came over me. "Neither do I know what I have done to deserve your ridicule. I accept your apology, but when next we meet please try to be more agreeable."
Generic dialogue[]
- What bounties are currently unclaimed? "Our captain of the guard is still on the loose. Keep your blade ready if you get anywhere near him. Very dangerous, he is. There is also a bit of foolishness with a local artist named Prism. Stole a couple of emeralds, he did. We seek their return, though Prism's fate is of little concern."
