Not to be confused with North Forest (Shadows of Amn).
The North Forest is a small area accessible in Chapter 8 of the Throne of Bhaal campaign.
Background[]
This area can only be reached initially via the Pocket Plane (area), and then only after the defeat of Gromnir Il-Khan, and dialogue with Melissan - the Ward will receive the journal entry for the Defeating Yaga-Shura quest - which is the next main questline to advance the game's plot.
Description[]
This area map is a mostly level patch of territory with rocky outcroppings, and light trees and scrub brush, with a large stream/river flowing west to east, with a small creek connecting into a stream loop from the north.
Grassy patches of open areas as well as dilapidated remains of some dwellings and fencing are present here. There is a shallow stretch of the water with steppingstones across it, and the next bend of water is bridged with a makeshift bridge of wooden planks and support timbers - probably rigged by the Yara-Shura forces.
Various wildlife is present here, such as some circling eagles and other birds, squirrels, and even a foraging Black Bear.
The detritus of war is also present including fresh human corpses and horse carcasses, as well as a wrecked merchant wagon.
On the map[]
There are no Automap note markers on this area's map.
Resting in this area[]
With no enemies present the party can attempt to rest here, however there is a chance that the rest period will be interrupted by Fire Giants and more Yaga-Shura soldiers. A text will display at this time:
- You are awakened by monsters! Perhaps the pocket plane would be a safer place to rest.
Gameplay[]
Using the exit portal from the Pocket plane and selecting the non-Saradush travel destination choice will lead to the party arriving in the southwestern corner of this area's map.
Upon arrival, a text will display reading:
- The magic of the pocket plane has placed you in the wilderness on the road to Yaga-Shura's home. Your map has been updated, and you shall have to make your way to Yaga-Shura's areas and discover the source of his invulnerability.
At this time north of the party will be observed by some hostile soldiers, some seem to be facing a wrecked merchant cart and merchants, and various fresh corpses lay about the location.
Several merchants are already dead, and three more are being systematically threatened by Yaga-Shura Soldiers and are mere moments away from being stabbed and cut down - in fact there will be some texts displayed on the combat log such as "Help us! Someone!", or "We're under attack!" and similar cries of desperation.
If the party is quick enough, it's possible to get up towards the wrecked caravan/wagon and engage the marauding soldiers before the merchants are all killed - but it has to be fast.
The party may intervene and try and slay these marauding soldiers, but the soldiers will turn their attention to the party as well. Based on some texts on the combat log, the player will notice that Yaga-Shura's soldiers recognize the Ward and group, and there is a reward for the Ward's death.
Assuming this group of Yaga-Shura army forces are put down, the party may speak with any surviving merchants if desired (they will give thanks and flee the map) and also will notice a portly civilian man who will move to the nearest party member he can see and initiate dialogue - this is Karthis al-Hezzar another merchant, see his article page for more.
Next, the party should explore the remainder of the area map, and make their way eastward, crossing a looping river/stream to do so.
Various hostile human army soldiers as well as a quartet of Fire Giants will attack the party if they are seen - to depart this area and continue on the road to Yaga-Shura's home, the party will need to exit the area's eastern edge.

Collect any found loot drops from defeated enemies, and transition to the next World Map screen - select a valid destination to travel to.
If continuing onto investigate the Defeating Yaga-Shura questline, then either the Forest of Mir – The Temple or Marching Mountains should be the place{s) to go to next.
