The Ninjatō of the Scarlet Brotherhood +3, also called Scarlet Ninja-To +3.

This Monk weapon grants faster attack rate and may Poison its victims.

Location[]

Sold by Joluv inside the Copper Coronet.

Description[]

When a member of the Scarlet Brotherhood kills one of that organization's "great enemies", they are often rewarded with this sword. How this sword made its way from the world of Greyhawk (where the Brotherhood is based) to Faerûn is a mystery. When unsheathed, the ninjatō will glow blood red.

Gameplay[]

  • Because it's a monk exclusive weapon, thieves with Use Any Item may not backstab with it (although it is still a viable off-hand weapon).
  • Similar to Belm and Kundane, it provides the wielder with an extra APR, granted to the character's main hand melee weapon, making it an excellent off-hand choice for dual-wielding thieves and bards (once they have Use Any Item HLA).
    • It's also a weapon of choice for dual-wielding monks with Gauntlets of Crushing and no weapon in the main hand, applying the -4 THAC0 bonus on main AND off-hand attack.
  • The weapon will not be able to damage creatures that require +4 or higher-enchantment weapon to hit, like for example a few bosses in Throne of Bhaal. The 6 points of poison damage will apply through Stoneskin and similar effects but not through weapon immunity.

Trivia[]

  • As stated in its description, this weapon is connected to the Greyhawk setting of Dungeons & Dragons, which takes place on a world called "Oerth". In the tabletop games, Greyhawk and the Forgotten Realms have been connected by both portals and the use of Spelljammers—magical spaceships.
The Scarlet Brotherhood are an evil faction from the Greyhawk setting, which can be summarized as "fantasy Nazis" (with a little Ku Klux Klan thrown in for good measure). They are the descendants of the fallen Suloise Imperium, an evil empire of blonde haired, blue-eyed humans which was destroyed in a magical war. The survivors have rebuilt and seek to claim dominance over Oerth again, which includes enslaving all non-Suel humans and all sapient humanoids. The Scarlet Brotherhood is the cabal that both reigns over this rebuilt empire and which works to achieve this goal. Assassination is one of its favored tactics, and monks are the preeminent class amongst the Brotherhood, which is why this weapon is restricted to monk wielders.
