Baldur's Gate Wiki

Ninjatō +2 is a one-handed slashing bladed weapon that is only found in Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear and The Black Pits II: Gladiators of Thay.

Description[]

Saito Kagizu, or "Cat of the East" as the thieves of Athkatla called him, brought several of these ninja swords with him when he arrived in Faerûn. They were part of his personal collection, ninjatō that he either "collected" from rivals or designed himself. When he died, his mistress gave away the swords to her other lovers, all of them powerful thieves in their own right.

A ninja-to was a sword 2 feet (61 centimeters) in length, similar to a short sword, and was designed to be easily concealed. Unlike the katana, this sword featured a straight blade of somewhat lower quality. However, true to the ninja's tactical approach, both the sword and its scabbard possessed multiple functionalities, which varied among individual ninjas. For instance, some swords might contain concealed compartments in the hilt or tip of the scabbard, intended for carrying powders, poisons, or small daggers.

The scabbard, typically longer than the sword itself, was open at both ends, allowing it to double as a blowpipe or breathing tube. Additionally, a sturdy silk cord might be wrapped around the scabbard that was capable of being unraveled and utilized for climbing purposes. Due to its robust and rigid nature, the scabbard could even be used as a makeshift ladder rung.

Gameplay[]

This weapon is somewhat rare in the BG game setting, mainly because in the Forgotten Realms lore the Ninjatō is mainly sourced from Kara-Tur.

This +2 Enchanted Weapon inflicts 1d8+2 Slashing damage with any hit and it provides a 2-point bonus to THAC0 as well - it can be wielded by specific classes/kits that are able to use the weapon, as shown of the InfoBox.
