A Nabassu is a demon that can be summoned by the arcane conjuration spell Cacofiend, or as a result of a Wild Surge. It can be quite dangerous to low-level parties. The creature depicted in this article is for the gated or conjured variety available to the player if summoned by spell, or by opponent spell casts.
Note that other Nabassu creatures in the game will be mostly similar, and not different enough to warrant their own InfoBox.
As a gated demon, it will ignore creatures under Protection From Evil and disappear after 2 turns. It cannot be banished by a Death Spell.
Otherwise, it can attack its summoner. Its claws and bites work as magical weapons +4, dealing 3D4 Crushing damage. It can innately see the invisible and regenerates 1 HP every 12 hours.
Nabassu immunities can vary slightly from one creature type to the next, but they all possess an undroppable item in their ring slot which provides the following protections:
- 100% resistance to Poison damage
- Immunity to non-magical weapons
- Immunity to effects:
- Charm Creature
- Confusion
- Feeblemindedness
- Panic
- Poison

Besides physical melee attacks, it has the following abilities available:
- A Tanar'ri Silence, 15' Radius-like innate attack used only once, if it sees a mage or a priest.
- Death Gaze: 1D8 Acid damage and 1D8 Fire damage to a single target that must also save vs Death or be affected by Hold Creature for 5 rounds or until dispelled.
- Tanar'ri Paralyze: Anyone in a 15-foot radius must save vs Spell with a +1 bonus or be affected by Hold Creature for 6 rounds or until dispelled.
- Tanar'ri Vampiric Touch: 11 Magical damage to a single target but doesn't heal the demon.
One party member of the player's choice may fight a Nabassu from the lower planes in the second match available in the beast fighting pit in the Ust Natha Tavern. Speak with Szordrin in the tavern to participate, and battle to the death for gold and the glory of Lolth.

Mod Content[]
- This section is about unofficial content that is only available via fan-made mods.
Installation of the Sword Coast Stratagems Mod, and the "Improved Fiends" component will Improve the Nabassu as follows:
Nabassus (cast at 12th level):
Powerful silence spell (-5 to saves) once per day
"Death gaze" (damaging gaze attack) automatically, once per round (in addition to other powers)
Teleport without Error, Paralysis and Vampiric Touch, all at will
Damage Resistance: Cold and Fire 50%, Electricity 100%
Base THAC0: 10, Adjusted THAC0: 7
The creature also gets a different color scheme and has a unique appearance to differentiate it from some other fiends using the same animation in the game. The mod version of the Nabassu's Silence innate spell will be launched at any mage, bard or cleric class (including sub varieties and dual and multi class) spell casters.
The Spell Revisions mod replaces the Cacofiend spell with a Summon Death Knight alternate, and thus, the Nabassu won't be available via summoned magic by the player or opponent mages. See the Cacofiend spell page for details.
