Morentherene is an adult green dragon, though rather young and small by dragon standards. She is an optional boss in chapter 9 of Siege of Dragonspear. The party finds her asleep next to her hoard and eggs in the Wyrm Cave as they seek the Ruined Temple of Bhaal where they hope to find a priest of Cyric who stole the means to enter Bridgefort.
Gameplay[]
The dragon can be either killed, or tiptoed around by sticking to the southernmost part of the cave, where the only two entrances/exits are located. Approaching Morentherene, her eggs, her treasure, using any spell, ability or bard song will wake her up and battle will break out immediately, but It is possible to get close to her without waking her up with a Stealth of at least 100 or a silenced character.
In core rules difficulty, this battle will attract two Greater Wyverns which may join the fight on the side of the wyrm. In hard difficulty, another Greater Wyvern and a Young Green Dragon will enter the area as well. In insane difficulty, the total will grow to five Greater Wyverns and two Young Green Dragons. But Morentherene can also be killed in her sleep with a single Throwing Dagger or Throwing Dagger +1 – provided whoever has thrown it still has at least one equipped when the first one hits its target. Dragon Scales can be collected from her corpse.
