Merella is a female ranger who operated in the Umar Hills near Athkatla. Living in her cabin near the village of Imnesvale, she was the assigned protector of the region, charged with preserving the balance of civilization versus nature and seeking to protect people from monstrous depredations. Unfortunately, when the Shade Lord escaped into the material plane in the Ruined Temple, Merella's attempts to defeat the otherworldly monster were foiled and it possessed her body, using her as a host for its own malign spirit until it was destroyed by Gorion's Ward. Merella regained her half-elven form long enough to attempt a thank you to her rescuers but she didn't possess the strength and died with the words on her lips.
