MARLOWE

Marlowe, a merchant has a tale to tell and may need some help - PPE Mod portrait

Welcome to my humble accommodations […] Will you hear out my tale?

Marlowe is a human Merchant who made a deal with Vongoethe; both are involved in the rescue of his daughter.

You will first have an opportunity to listen to part of Marlowe's tale upon entering The Zephir Inn in Amkethran. After some brief dialogue, he asks you to meet him in his home on top of the hill, which is not labelled on the Map as such, and is identified as the Empty Home (Amkethran). If the party makes its way to this house and enter it, then you see Marlowe and his sick daughter Malla, who is lying on the bed.

Marlowe will ask if will hear his tale. There are three self-explanatory replies to choose from, summarized as, yes, you'll listen to his tale, or no, not interested, or the third, where you the Bhaalspawn will say "Actually, I came here to kill you, Marlowe. No offense, I just do that sort of thing". If you do not listen to his tale, then The Graveyard Lich quest is over for the party until you do so. If you kill Marlowe and or his sick daughter, the party will get a reputation penalty for slaying an innocent, and the quest will be over as well. For further continuation of the quest and information about it, see the link.

Trivia[]

Marlowe is a reference to the Elizabethan Era English playwright Christopher Marlowe. One of his plays was named Doctor Faustus, based on the story of Faust who sold his soul to the Devil. Fittingly, Marlowe's nemesis is named Vongoethe after Goethe who wrote a play around the same character.
