This item appears in Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.
Manuals of Gainful Exercise are magical tomes which increase Strength by one point (up to a maximum of 25) and are consumed when the point is added. It can be used by all classes. It has a weight of 25 lbs.
If used on a character with a Strength value of 18 (with or without exceptional Strength), this item will skip the (remaining) percentage variants of Str 18 and instead boost the character's Strength to 19.
If used on a character with a Strength value of 17 it will be increased to base 18 without any exceptional value, even if the character in question is in the warrior group type.

- In the Candlekeep Catacombs on the first floor. This can be found in a container just past the Phase Spider room. There are traps just before and after the the Phase Spider rooom (trap difficulty: 70). It is in a locked (lock difficulty: 80) and trapped (trap difficulty: 60) container.
