For the actual status effect of being able to resist spells, see Magic resistance.

Magic Resistance sets the target creature's Magic resistance to 2% per caster level up to 40% at 20th level.

Description[]

When this spell is cast, the recipient receives a resistance to all magic. The resistance conferred is 2% per level of the caster, up to a maximum of 40% at 20th level. This resistance is set so that if the target already has more Magic Resistance than the priest would confer, it will actually lower it to the set value. This effect will last for the duration of the spell or until dispelled.

Gameplay[]

The first experience level that a cleric can use this spell is level 9. Using this as an example, when cast by the level 9 cleric, the spell will set the target's magic resistance to 18% (9 x 2%), making it an excellent "debuff" when encountering powerful, magic resistant creatures such as dragons. The spell basically overwrites the creature's innate MR rating and gets reset (temporarily) with the new value. This works in favor of the attacker.

This spell pierces through pre-existing Magic resistance. It can be used on opponents instead of Lower Resistance in order to scale down their natural MR and memorize less Pierce Magic or Pierce Shield on mages. Keep in mind however, that Magic Resistance is a touch spell with the highest possible casting time (9), which makes it difficult to apply it on enemies, whereas all the wizard spells to lower resistance have maximum range and shorter casting time.

When cast on a party member it will completely override any magical resistance from items or abilities. Additional castings are not cumulative.

This spell can be removed with spell protection removers such as Spell Thrust or Secret Word. The spell can also be dispelled via Dispel Magic or Remove Magic.

Upon the casting of this spell, the recipient’s resistance to all forms of magic is increased by 2% per level of the priest, up to a maximum bonus of 40% at 20th level. This effect will last for the duration of the spell or until dispelled. Multiple castings of this spell are not cumulative.

Note: Available to Cleric/Paladin class only
Note:The SR version of this spell does not set or replace magic resistance, it adds magic resistance to the creature, which is cumulative with any previously existing magic resistance - although multiple castings of the spell don't add on- but simply refresh the spell.
