The Mace of Disruption is an enchanted mace in Baldur's Gate II, that is especially useful against the undead. The smith Cromwell is able to upgrade the original +3 weapon with illithium ore to a +5 weapon with additional protection against Level drain.

Gameplay[]

  • The actual proper name as seen by the player in the game is "Mace of Disruption +1". If upgraded with illithium, the improved version's name is "Mace of Disruption +2".
  • The "+1" and "+2" values in the two versions of the mace are inconsistent with most other game naming conventions for weaponry and other items. In the case of these maces, the "+" refers to the THAC0 bonus only, and not the base enchantment value.

Mace of Disruption +1[]

The weapon's actual enchantment level is +3 regarding what it can strike. The +1 refers to its THAC0 bonus. The weapon applies 1d6+2 Crushing damage. Against undead creatures it has a doubled damage of 2d6+4 and may destroy them with any successful hit if the undead target creature fails to save vs. death with a penalty of 4.

Note: Against creatures coded as Type: Undead, a successful hit will apply Opcode/effect 13 Kill target. Liches in the game are immune to the instant death effect Slay, but not Kill Target. The exception to this is the first iteration of Kangaxx, due to the equipped MINHP1.ITM needed for script completion.

Description[]

This heavy mace was created for a very specific purpose: to slay undead. Any such creature hit by it not only feels the sting of the weapon, but also has a chance of being simply blasted from existence. There are legends that speak of a priest so holy a single glancing touch could send a vampire to oblivion, but whether the weapon empowered her or she empowered it is a topic for theologians.

Mace of Disruption +2[]

The upgraded version of the mace now strikes as a +5 enchanted weapon against all foes. The +2 in mace's name refers only to the THAC0 bonus. The mace also has an increased damage bonus to 3. The stats versus undead aren't modified, but the wielder of the weapon will now have immunity against any Level drain effects.

Locations[]

Gladiators of Thay[]

  • Sold by the weapon merchant at Tier 3 (×1).

Shadows of Amn[]

  • The upgrade can be acquired by taking the basic weapon together with illithium ore and 7,500gp to Cromwell the smith.

Description[]

Now that the mace has been coated with illithium, it is even more potent, conferring to its user immunity to the life-draining powers of the more powerful undead.
