Kuo-toan warrior may be encountered at several places in Baldur's Gate II.
Locations[]
Shadows of Amn[]
- Underdark as part of the spawned Kuo-toan Bridge encounter.
- Western Tunnels
- Eastern Tunnels
Throne of Bhaal[]
- Watcher's Keep, Elemental Level – a kuo-toan warrior may appear in the air library[1]
Gameplay[]
- They fire kuo-toan bolts from their Light Crossbow.
- If forced into melee, they wield a specific spear, though without being enchanted, that deals 1d6+2 piercing damage – including strength bonus – and will slow and Grease effect the target for 15 seconds if no save vs. spell is made.
Notes[]
Kuo-toan warriors wear an undroppable Ring that provides some additional powers and protections, as follows:
- Invisible Detection by script
- Immune to Paralyze and Held effects
- Immune to Webbed effects
- Immune to Grease effects
- Immune to Slow effects
- Immune to 10 specific spells related to above
- Magical damage energy resistance 90%
- Physical damage resistance 33%
Unexplained notes[]
The game files give this creature an "Original Class" of Ranger and also mark it as a "Dual Class". That means that the creature is classified as a Ranger dualed to Kuo-toa, which is not accounted for in the appropriate .2DA files. This may be a developer oversight. Four additional Kuo-toan Warrior creature files also have this classification. Only one higher level Kuo-toan Warrior (KUOWAR20) is coded as a Fighter with Berserker Kit. In fact, many of the other Kuo-toan creatures in the game also have the Ranger dual class assigned. At this time, testing indicates that this odd classification makes no noticeable effect to the creature's performance at all.
Mod content[]
Installation of the Sword Coast Stratagems Mod provides the creature with SCS AI scripts for better tactical decision making, defense and targeting behavior. Additionally, 2 pips in crossbow and spear weapon proficiency are provided which will improve to hit and damage values.
