Baldur's Gate Wiki

Kiser Jhaeri is a male human merchant in Saradush during Chapter Eight - he is first encountered when the party visits the Militia Headquarters, as part of the introduction to the optional Betrayal at the Gates side quest.

Gameplay[]

Background[]

The party will have heard several exchanges of dialogue between Kiser and Captain Samand in the Militia HQ - when eventually Kiser is dismissed and allowed to leave the proceeding, and a Mateo is led away to jail. It seems as if the captain initially had suspicions that Kiser, who is seen as a somewhat unsavory merchant in Saradush, was the one who facilitated opening the secret gate into the besieged city. However, after Mirnielle Santele gave testimony that her son Ardic Santele told her that Mateo was seen opening the gate, this changed his mind for now, and Kiser wasn't arrested, but Mateo was. To complicate matters, Ardic wasn't available to confirm this eyewitness report, and he has gone missing.

If the party has decided to investigate this incident as part of the Betrayal at the gates quest, then at a future point the party will have to visit Kiser in his home.

Gameplay[]

Kiser will be in the center of his home and doesn't initiate dialogue oddly enough - the party must speak with him to get any dialogue started.

The gist of the interaction with Kiser is discussed in the Betrayal at the Gates quest article.

If the party attacks Kiser while he is in his home (and survives the initial onslaught) he'll interrupt with a shout and call for help - two Fighters appear at the steps leading downstairs, and they'll be hostile and attack along with Kiser.

If the party performs one of the requested tasks Kiser wants done, and returns to speak with the merchant, he'll know if the task was performed, and issue a reward, hand over a special Secret Jail Door Key and departs via dimension door out of the place. A final quest Journal entry is displayed.

If the party returns to Kiser's home and ended up getting Errard the wizard to divine the location of Ardic (somewhere in Kiser's home), then Kiser won't be present on the ground floor - he'll be downstairs in the cellar.

When fighting, Kiser behaves as a melee attacking Assassin, who'll use his potions of invisibility after each attack - while invisible the attack will be a Backstab with X6 stabbing damage modifier - when he's wounded to 50% of HP he'll attempt to quaff a healing potion in his quick slot.

Kiser doesn't use any special abilities of the Assassin kit, but he does get the extra damage modifiers with his weapon strikes, see the InfoBox.

Notes[]

The Enhanced Edition ensures that the Secret Jail Door Key and the Shakti Figurine are flagged as "unsteable" from the Jhaeri version found on the ground floor level of his home - the second version only appears in the cellar area, and that version can be pickpocketed (or killed, as it will soon be hostile).

Mod content[]

This section is about unofficial content that is only available via fan-made mods.

Mods:[]

The Sword Coast Stratagems mod makes a few revisions to Kiser, a new default assassin AI script is furnished for smarter tactical behavior in battle, including uses of Poison Weapon, and Evasion High-level class ability.

Kiser is now configured as a level 24 Assassin class NPC, with all the proper class/kit skills and inherent abilities including extra melee and missile weapon damage bonus, a x6 backstab damage modifier, and weapon proficiencies are changed to 1-point in short sword, a 2-points in single-weapon fighting style.

The dual wielding is done away with and there is no +2 dagger anymore.

Kiser will quaff a Potion of Invisibility after any attack attempt, for repeated backstabbing purposes, and each attack will most likely be envenomed with the Poison Weapon skill/ability.

With the Rogue Rebalancing mod he'll get a X7 backstab damage modifier, the max for the assassin kit.
