Baldur's Gate Wiki

Kiser's Home - Cellar is located in Saradush and is first accessible during Chapter Eight.

In order to go here, the party must have already spoken with Mateo in the Saradush Castle Jail, which will be unlock the door to Kiser's Home allowing access - the cellar is reached via a staircase leading below.

Description[]

Transition down the steps on the main ground floor of Kiser's home (the whole party must be gathered) and arrive in a dimly lit sub floor space. The walls, ceiling and floor are all tightly mortared stone construction.

The space is mostly empty in the center, with numerous baskets, sacks, clay jars, crates and boxes piled along the walls. There are a few furnishings such as a medium table, a cupboard with draws, and a larger table with chairs for seating, as well as currently unlit fireplace with a brick chimney connected to the upstairs smoke evacuation system.

There is a closed double door set on one wall - depending on if Kiser Jhaeri was attacked, the party will observe a pair of human male fighters standing to each side of the doors, posted as guards - they are lightly armored and wield small blade weapons in each hand.

Behind the double doors, which aren't locked, is a furnished bed chamber and another fireplace.

Other than stairs leading to this cellar, there doesn't appear to be any other exits from this space.

Gameplay[]

In terms of what might happen here, that is covered in the Betrayal at the Gates quest article.

Notes[]

The cellar has three detectable "ground traps" here, one of which is located in the small bed chamber.

These traps aren't the damaging/hazard type, but must be detected, and then disarmed in order to be able to 'flick' a secret switch lever that causes a faint sound of gears moving.

When all three switches are found and disarmed, this unlocks a secret passage/door located in the small bed chamber (to the right of the fireplace as you face it).

Even so, the secret passage/door must first be detected as well using the character's Detecting Secret Doors mechanics and has a detection difficulty of 90 - once the door is found (high-lighted in violet) then it can be clicked/selected, and then an open passageway is seen ahead. This secret passage will need to be unlocked by the party using the switches/levers, or it can be opened with the Secret Jail Door Key that is either given by Kiser or taken from his corpse.

The secret door also will automatically open when certain hostile actions are taken by the party and fighting takes place here in the cellar.

One of the ground "traps" has a Detection difficulty value of 120 (that's probably why one of the containers listed above has a potion that can help with that).
