Karoug is the leader of the Wolfweres on the Isle of Balduran. He's located on the captain's deck of the Wandering Eye, standing in the doorway to Balduran's cabin. Following a short dialogue he will transform into a Greater Wolfwere.

Gameplay[]
When he transforms out of human form, Karoug is vulnerable to magic.
Doom or Greater Malison can be followed by a disabler:
To overcome his high regeneration capability of 5 HPs/second, the party needs a lot of damage in a short time to take him down.
He can be damaged by:
- Magic Missile
- Wand of Fire
- Wand of the Heavens
- Necklace of Missiles
- Potion of Explosions
- Oil of Fiery Burning
- Potion of Fire Breath
Multiple Skull Traps or Cloudkills work well but allies may need special protection against these.
Only silver weapons can hurt him. In the first opus, they are:
- the dagger Werebane from a lower level of the ship
- the Sword of Balduran from the same level as Karoug
- Kondar
- Albruin (EE-only)
- The Burning Earth
A fighter/thief can repeatedly backstab with Werebane or The Burning Earth.
A fighter can use the dagger Werebane even if they don't have proficiency points in dagger, but they should:
- wear the Wolfsbane Charm
- wear a Legacy of the Masters
- drink the Potion of Cloud Giant Strength hidden on the entrance level of the ship
- drink a Potion of Heroism
- drink an Oil of Speed for extra attacks per round.
Karoug does slashing damage, so a tank's AC vs slashing should be optimal.
Depending on the party's composition, this fight can be a challenge (for example, if no party member is capable of wielding bladed weapons). However, keep in mind that the fight is entirely optional, as Gorion's Ward can leave the island by simply turning the people in the village aggressive (e.g. by failing a pickpocket or charm attempt), which opens up the secret passageway beneath the village that leads to the hidden ship. Only the XP and high value loot from killing Karoug (and his company) will be missed this way.
