Improved Invisibility allows the wizard to attack while remaining unseen.

Description[]

This spell is similar to Invisibility, but the recipient is able to attack by missile discharge, melee combat, or spellcasting while remaining unseen. However, telltale traces––a shimmering––allow an observant opponent to attack the invisible spell recipient. These traces are only noticeable when specifically looked for (after the invisible character has made his presence known). Attacks against the invisible character suffer a -4 penalty to attack rolls, and the invisible character's Saving Throws are made with a +4 bonus.

Note: After making an attack, the wizard is no longer completely invisible. Opponents can target the wizard.

Gameplay[]

This spell is cast upon a single creature, including oneself, with a touch range.

When the spell is cast, the combat log displays a text reading "Invisible".

The spell's recipient initially renders the sprite with a brief color glow and a lighting effect - additionally a sound effect is audibled when the spell cast is complete, and another when the spell expires.

This spell effectively bestows 2 states on the spell recipient; invisible and undetected and invisible but detected.

  • While undetected, the spell acts just like normal invisibility.
  • Once detected:
    • Changes to "weak invisibility". The spell effectively becomes a buff with -4 AC and -4 Saving Throw bonuses. The recipient can now be targeted with weapon attacks.
    • The recipient is still safe from almost all magics that affect single targets (but not from AoE spells and physical attacks). However, those spells that are spell protection removers can now target them, even if they are single-target.[1] Weirdly, single target attacks from scrolls, wands or other items also work. The immunity to single-target spells affects buffs by allies too, so e.g. you can't have your cleric cast Heal on an invisible ally.
  • The spells Mass Invisibility, Mislead and Shadow Door as well as the abilities Shadow Form and Spirit Form also cause Improved Invisibility.
Note: See Invisibility for additional game play advice.

The Improved Invisibility spell can be removed with any Dispel Magic effect.

Likewise, this spell can be removed using various Divination attacks, including a thief's Detect Illusion ability, and various spells that remove invisibility, such as Invisibility Purge, Oracle and True Sight.

Creatures with the See the invisible innate ability will be able to target a creature under the effects of improved invisibility, as if they were not invisible at all.

Spell Revisions mod has changed this arcane spell, revising its effects and description. See below for description:
Improved Invisibility
Level: 4
School: Illusion
Range: Touch Duration: 3 rounds + 1 round/level
Casting Time: 4
Area of Effect: 1 creature
Saving Throw: None

This spell is similar to the Invisibility spell, but the recipient is able to attack, either by missile discharge, melee combat, or spellcasting, and remain unseen. Note, however, that there are sometimes telltale traces, a shimmering, that enable observant opponents to approximate the invisible character’s whereabouts. These traces are only noticeable when specifically looked for, after the creature has made his presence known. Once the character has revealed himself, opponents can attempt to attack him with conventional weapons, though they do so with a -4 penalty to the attack roll, or they may cast area of effect spells near his position. Opponents remain unable to directly target the invisible creature with spells, scrolls, or abilities until the spell duration expires or the invisibility is dispelled.
