Disambiguation icon Not to be confused with Important Events (SoD).

Important Events is the journal entry that logs your progress through the main story of Baldur's Gate. As befits its role in the game, Important Events is always the top item in the current quests section of your journal. Don't assume that this means that whatever directions it gives should be the first thing you should do. Side quests are an important and necessary part of the game.

Note: The specific entry names – e.g. the first one, "Find Gorion" – are only shown in the log or dialogue window while the entry is acquired but don't appear in the journal itself.

Prologue[]

The first journal entry is acquired right after completing the character generation. It remains the only Important Event during the game's Prologue.

Find Gorion[]

Find Gorion points to Gorion and summarizes what otherwise can be learnt by speaking with him, giving advice what should be done before leaving Candlekeep.

Gorion, my foster father, has informed me that we must immediately leave Candlekeep and set out on a journey. He has given me some gold, and I must purchase supplies for the road, including weapons and armor.

Chapter One[]

In Chapter One, several events are possible, with their exact number depending on the path taken.

Go to the Friendly Arm Inn[]

Go to the Friendly Arm Inn resumes Gorion's words, spoken immediately before leaving Candlekeep, and is automatically obtained in the morning after the events that followed the departure.

With Gorion slain, I must continue onward by myself. My first destination should be the Friendly Arm Inn to the north. Gorion claims that his former associates Khalid and Jaheira will be there waiting for me.

Gorion's Ward is free to choose a different path and heading south to Nashkel without visiting the Arm first, for example on behalf of Xzar and Montaron. In this case the following event will happen at any later point of time, if Khalid and Jaheira are finally met and the Nashkel Mines not yet been cleared.

Meet with Khalid & Jaheira[]

Meet with Khalid & Jaheira reminds Gorion's Ward, when reaching the Friendly Arm Inn, that there may be two friends waiting inside the inn.

Safe at last at the Friendly Arm Inn! My next step should be to find and introduce myself to Khalid and Jaheira, friends of Gorion. They can give me some advice as to what to do next.

Visiting the Arm and Khalid and Jaheira is still possible after having reached Nashkel, but the both will be gone when Chapter Three has begun, after solving the issues in the Nashkel Mines.

Travel to Nashkel[]

After the meeting, wether Khalid and Jaheira join the party or not, Gorion's Ward decides to travel to Nashkel.

As I have little else to do and few allies, I should devote some time to investigating the cause of the iron shortage in the region. My next stop should be the town of Nashkel to the south.

Chapter Two[]

During Chapter Two, the Important Events follow a rather straight path.

Speak to the Mayor of Nashkel[]

Speak to the Mayor of Nashkel is received as soon as the party arrives either at Nashkel or at its mines for the first time – which simultaneously opens Chapter Two.

I have arrived in Nashkel. If I am going to look into the iron crisis, I should speak with someone in power who might have useful information for me. Perhaps the mayor will be of some help.

The mayor, Berrun Ghastkill, will especially react to the presence of Jaheira, Khalid, Xzar, or Montaron – in that order – in the party when spoken to initially.

Visit the Nashkel Mines[]

After having spoken with Ghastkill – no matter the Ward's choice of whether helping out or not, whether for a reward or for none, Important Events will be updated as to visit the Nashkel Mines.

Berrun Ghastkill has informed me about the situation at the Nashkel mines. I should make my way there to investigate the source of its problems. It lies to the southeast of the town, and I should be able to arrive there quickly.

Enter the Nashkel Mines[]

When visiting the mines, though only after having spoken to Nashkel's mayor, another update to the Important Events is received, Enter the Nashkel Mines.

I have arrived at the impressive pit known as the Nashkel mines, and people seem to be on edge. I should speak with the owner of the mines for permission before attempting to enter.

The Nashkel Mines[]

The owner of the mines, Emerson, can be found opposite of the "Entrance to the Mines" – which is blocked by three Amnian soldiers who don't allow access until permitted. Speaking with him will update the Events for the entry The Nashkel Mines.

Emerson, owner of the mines, has allowed me entrance. My next step will be to delve deep into the mines to see whether I can find what's causing all these problems.

Demons in the Mines[]

Upon reaching the mines' second subterranean level, the party is approached by miner Beldin. He asks for help against "yipping demons" which leads to the next Important Event, Demons in the Mines; those demons, however, turn out to be actually kobolds.

I've encountered kobolds in the mines and there seems to be more of them in the lower levels. I should seek out their leader.

Chapter Three[]

Incomplete, as of October 2, 2024

Chapter Three starts after picking up Tazok's letters to Mulahey, especially the second one.

Return to Nashkel[]

After having learned about some of the backgrounds behind the contaminated iron from the Nashkel mines, Gorion's Ward is supposed to return to Nashkel and deliver the information to Berrun Ghastkill.

Having plumbed the depths of the Nashkel mines, I should return to Berrun Ghastkill and inform him of the situation. Additionally, I should travel to Beregost and pay a visit to Feldepost's Inn. A man by the name of Tranzig is there and should have interesting information for me.

This also adds Confronting Tranzig as the first quest for Chapter Three to the journal.

Tranzig[]

Reporting to the mayor only confirms that the next step would be to look for this Tranzig.

I should travel to Beregost and pay a visit to Feldepost's Inn. A man by the name of Tranzig is there and should have interesting information for me.

The Bandits[]

When confronting Tranzig in the upper western room at Feldepost's, no matter how with him or his belongings is dealt with, the next Important Event is added to the journal: to go search the the bandits in the Wood of Sharp Teeth.

I should travel to Larswood or Peldvale next. It appears that the bandit attacks come from there and are related to the iron shortage. There should be a base hidden away somewhere in the forests.

Chapter Four[]

Cloakwood[]

Cloakwood

The investigation of the bandit camp has directed me to Cloakwood. It appears there is a competing iron mine hidden somewhere deep within the forest.

Crippling Cloakwood[]

Crippling Cloakwood

I must find a way to stop or at least temporarily disable the mining operation here in Cloakwood. Searching the mine may provide me with a way to accomplish this goal, but I fear it will be a bloody affair.

Chapter Five[]

Baldur's Gate[]

Baldur's Gate

I have flooded the Cloakwood mine, rendering it useless. It seems that it is time to visit the nearby city of Baldur's Gate. I must investigate the Iron Throne and discover their intentions.
