Ilbratha is an enchanted short sword +1 available in the Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn or Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition game versions.
Location[]
The sword is a reward from Jermien as part of resolving the Find mimic's blood for Jermien the Cowled Wizard side-quest.
Description[]
| “ | This ancient bronze sword is set with six matching bloodstones, and was apparently forged for Azoun the First, a long dead king of Cormyr. It saw little use, and eventually found its way to a favored of the king's guards. Despite the aid of its illusionary magic, that unnamed soldier fell in a later battle, and the sword was lost to brigands or scavengers. | ” |
Gameplay[]
This short sword is a +1 Enchanted item that strikes in melee for 1d6+1 Piercing damage, with a 1-point THAC0 bonus - the damage can be modified by the user's Strength attribute.
The wielder can apply an emulated version of the Mirror Image spell to self, by selecting the "Use Item" button and selecting the sword's 1-charge - this action will apply 4 images to the user for a one turn duration.
This pseudo-spell is coded as an illusionary protection and can be removed by an applicable divination attack spell/ability, such as Detect Illusion or True Sight, and similar magics, as well as any Dispel Magic effect.
The sword's daily use ability charge is replenished after a standard 8-hour rest period.
Bugs[]
Unlike the arcane spell cast version of Mirror Image, the Ilbratha applied Mirror Images are coded differently. The practical result of this is that the ability, does not bypass Magic resistance. This means that the recipient of the images might not gain any benefit if its magic resistance blocks it. This is still the case in BG2EE 2.6.6 and is clearly a bug.
Mod content[]
This section is about unofficial content that is only available via fan-made mods.
This bug is identified and corrected in The Enhanced Edition Fixpack (EEFP). Ref: (sw1h26.itm)
