Ihtafeer is a Rakshasa who has used illusions to pretend to be Adratha the Witch, taken a new form and poses as a Store keeper and vendor of potions. This elaborate scheme is to hide from Khan Zahraa, a genie in Trademeet. She can be found in a Adratha's Cottage in the Druid Grove.

Gameplay[]

The resident of the cottage looks at you expectantly when you enter and says nothing as she watches. Speaking with her sets in motion two different outcomes:

The first is if the party has not yet started to Deal with the Trademeet genies, you may buy from her stock, although she will not buy anything from you.

There is an exception to this. If your current party companions include either Jan Jansen, Keldorn Firecam or Hexxat, then they will interject a comment regarding the witch. For instance, Jan will speak up and say:

"Errr... One moment <CHARNAME>. Maybe it's just me, but I see illusions all over place here. Especially on the old woman there. Any idea how an old woman would have a tiger head, by chance?"

After this remark, Adratha will loudly exclaim in a different voice:

" What?! You do not have the stench of the djinn on you! How do you know this?! Bah!"

She will then transform from an old woman into a tiger headed Rukh while drawing her sword and pursuing hostile action.

And finally, under any/all of the following conditions, she will turn hostile, calling support from two other rakshasas, Jalaal and Saadat:

  • If you have started the genies' quest, or
  • the Flail of Ages is in your inventory.

In this instance, Adratha will say:

"You! You have the stench of those filthy djinn about you! I know what you have come for!"
Note:At this point the player's Journal will update with - Dealing with the Trademeet Genies: I have uncovered Ihtafeer posing as a potion seller near the druid grove.

Once the hostilities have begun, and perhaps the party's surprise has worn off, Adratha changes into Ihtafeer and takes Rukh form, and her two allies will assist her.

There are a few short tics of the clock before the help can coalesce and begin action. If able, Ifhateer will attempt to cast a Chain Lightning first, which may target multiple party members if applicable.

Afterwards will likely be a second Chain Lightning, then perhaps a Death Fog or up to two Cloudkill spell casts in a row, and finally an Ice Storm - after that her spell casting is basically finished.

These spell casting attempts assume she isn't disrupted from her casting sequence by damage or other interruption.

She has limited accuracy with her long sword but has an above average number of Attacks per round.

The fight can be a surprisingly difficult for an unprepared party, mainly because of the potential use of poison spells. In addition, an ordinary Rakshasa like Saadat can only be harmed by magical weapons. Also, only spells of Power level 8 or above can affect them. Certain consumables and abilities that bypass Power Level constraints could be useful.

If killed, Ihtafeer drops a Periapt of Proof Against Poison, her head and an ordinary long sword. This changed in the Enhanced Edition as her head is moved to an armor slot to prevent stealing it.

Afaaq the Djinni Companion mod makes some changes in this encounter. The first will be that Saadat and Jalaal are not present in human form inside the store. They only appear via a teleportation animation if and when hostilities begin. The second is that after all three of the Raksasha have been destroyed, a teleportation portal will appear on the upper deck of the area. The party must decide if they will enter the portal, to open up the adventures offered to begin this modification.

The Sword Coast Stratagems mod revises the AI, scripts and spell usage of the Rakshasas. Ihtafeer is provided a larger repertoire of arcane mage to select. When she transitions from Adratha the Witch to the Rukh form, a group of uninterruptible protective buffs (previously cast) will manifest upon her. These include Mirror Image, Shadow Door, Haste, Spell Deflection, Shield (spell), Spell Immunity (or "Dispelling Screen" with Spell Revisions), Stoneskin, and Non-Detection. One round later Protection From Magical Weapons will be applied. As can be seen from these buffs, she is very difficult to strike, and few spells can get through until she has been attacked with appropriate magic removers.

Unlike the unmodified version of Ihtafeer, she does not rigidly follow only a certain path with subsequent offensive spells. These are determined by the Party's protections detected by the AI and vulnerabilities identified. She may never use Cloudkill (but she can) for example. With a new compliment of spells, the Raksasha can banish summoned creatures, she can Breach, Secret Word, has more than one Mirror Image and PfMW, will caste multiple AoE attacks such as Sunfire and Ice Storm, as well as Horror and Emotion: Hopelessness. She can also attempt Remove Magic, although her casting level isn not very high.

Ihtafeer has a prepared Minor Sequencer that can be instantly released.

SCS has changed her weapon proficiencies to 3 pips in long sword, and 2 pips in single weapon fighting style which results in improved THAC0, damage, and armor class. If hasted she can strike 4.5 times per round.

With the Spell Revisions she will use the SR spells. If Icewind Dale spells are added to the game, she will have Icelance and Emotion: Despair for example.
