Ice Storm allows the wizard to pummel his enemies with hail stones. It was originally available in Baldur's Gate II, but the Enhanced Edition ported it back into the first opus.

Description[]

Ice Storm
When this spell is cast, great hail stones pound down for four rounds in a 60-ft.-diameter area and inflict 2d8 points of cold damage to any creatures within the area of effect. Also, anyone that remains within the area of effect takes 2d8 cold damage each round for 4 rounds.

Gameplay[]

The caster selects a single point on the area map to cast the spell at - and the spell manifests and radiates from that selected point.

It strikes 4 times in the second opus of the saga, but only 3 times in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Siege of Dragonspear.

The spell effects occur once per round, for every round that the creature is within the storm's area of effect.

Moving out of the area stops exposure to the effect.

Magic resistance can potentially block this spell, as well as a Globe of Invulnerability, and a SI: Evocation.

The Cloak of Mirroring will protect the wearer from the damaging effects of this spell.

There is no way to dispel this ice storm once it is manifested on the map, and it must run its course before expiring.

Multiple Ice Storms can be piled on/stacked for extra damage in the same area of effect.

The spell is supposed to last four rounds, not three. This issue is already identified and revised by The Enhanced Edition Fixpack (EEFP).

When this spell is cast, great magical hailstones pound down for 4 rounds within a 30-foot radius of a point selected by the caster. Creatures within the area of effect have their movement speed reduced by 50% and receive 2d8 points of cold damage for each round they remain inside the storm.

Note:SR fixes the duration of the spell to four rounds.
