An Ice Mephit is an extra-planar "outsider" (i.e., linked to various Elemental, Quasi-Elemental and Outer planes of existence). These creatures are similar to Imps, and are found in a number of areas during the Baldur's Gate II games.

Gameplay[]

The Ice Mephit needs to get fairly close in order to attack in melee with its claws, or near enough to get within range of its innate ability attack, Ice Shard. The Ice shard is launched at a target in range as soon as detected, and then repeats every three rounds afterwards. It has an endless supply of this attack option.

The Ice Mephit has elemental resistance to cold, but is particularly vulnerable to fire damage, taking extra if affected by that damage type. It has no magic resistance but retains some immunities to certain status effects as shown in the InfoBox.

Note: The ice mephit has the Blur spell in memory, but it won't use it as the script does not employ it.

Bugs[]

  • In the Classic Shadows of Amn LOADCNTR00004 Icon SoABaldur's Gate II:
    Shadows of Amn
    (2000)
This icon indicates content from the original Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn campaign.
game, one ice mephit (creature file MEPICE02.cre) is falsely named Radiant Mephit. This is fixed in BG2EE.
  • This same version (MEPICE02) also has 0 % immunity to Cold. This is fixed in BG2EE.
  • Two versions of Ice Mephits (creature files MEPICE01.cre and OBSICE02.cre) use the innate ability of a Magma Mephit (Magma Ball[1] (×8)) instead of the Ice Shard ability of an Ice Mephit. This is fixed in BG2EE.
  • These same two versions (MEPICE01 and OBSICE02) also have 206% immunity to fire, possibly because the developers simply copied the creature files from Magma Mephit and forgot to set it to 0. This is fixed in BG2EE.
