Ice Golem may spawn in Watcher's Keep Final Seal, as well as the Watcher's Keep Elemental Level.
Gameplay[]
The Ice Golem is a rare and unusual type of construct that is a mostly a mindless automaton that will attempt to crush enemy creatures with its bludgeoning fists. It will engage the nearest enemy it can detect and then proceed to forcefully whale away.
The golem has a number of typical immunities as most golems do and can only be struck by magical or enchanted weapon attacks. See the InfoBox for a listing.
There is the special Ice Golem (Guardian of Ice) in Watcher's Keep Elemental Level, which requires +3 weapons to hit.
When the golem is hit by any sort of fire damage, the golem produces a Scalding Steam effect, which is implemented as an innate spell.
This spell manifests as a "White Fireball" animation centered on the golem, that explodes in a 15' diameter in all directions. Any creatures in the area of effect are potentially exposed to the "steam", which can inflict 10d3 Cold damage. A saving throw vs. breath will negate, and a Minor Globe of Invulnerability will block it, and so can Magic resistance.
The Scalding Steam can occur over and over, anytime the golem is hit by fire damage.
Mod content[]
The Golem Construction for Spellcasters mod adds a droppable item when the golem is defeated. It is a shard of special ice that can be used as a necessary component when the party mage attempts to build their own Ice Golem.
The Sword Coast Stratagems mod and the installation of the "AI Enhancements" component improves many aspects of creatures encountered in the game. In regard to golems, the mod implements the following:
Improved Golems (BG2, BG2EE, BGT/EET)
This component doesn't really make golems smarter (they're supposed to be stupid) But it streamlines their scripts a bit, gives their weapons a sensible range, makes them immune to Lower Resistance and to poison, and tries to prevent situations where golems get stuck behind barricades.
Ice golems are immune to the Lower Resistance, Pierce Magic and Pierce Shield spells.
If you damage an SCS golem, and then decide to back away and rest somewhere, to continue the fight later, the golem will be restored to full health.
The Ice golem gets a revised AI script to change their targeting behavior slightly. In addition to the Scalding Steam ability, the Ice Golem also is able to unleash a Cone of Cold, about every three rounds of combat, as long as an enemy is within 10 feet of the golem. This spell is cast at will and has no limit as long as the golem is functioning.
