Helm of the Rock is a magical item which grants the wearer, who must be a fighter, 25% resistance to fire, cold, electricity, acid and poison, as well as the standard protection from critical hits. The helmet has a weight of 2 lbs. This item appears in Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition. Cespenar can upgrade the helm for you, which requires 5000 gold.

Location[]

The helm can be found on as loot from a creature within the Watcher's Keep Elemental Level, where the horns can also be found, which are required to upgrade the helm. The Helm is worn by the Fire Laboratory Fire Giant.

Description[]

This helm grants a warrior immunities far beyond mere physical protections. It is obvious there once used to be a set of horns protruding from the metal cap, though the horns and any magic associated with them have long since disappeared.

Upgraded[]

When the horns are added to the helmet, it can be used thrice per day to cast "Aura of Command", which forces enemies to make a save vs spells at -2 or flee in terror. This effect uses a sparkle projectile and applies a Horror effect IESDP Opcode 23 (that belongs to no school or assigned type) is considered nonmagical (meaning it ignores magical resistance and magical spell level protections such as Globe of Invulnerability or Spell Trap), has a power level of 0 (ie the maximum possible, so it can, for example, affect Rakshasa) and lasts for 5 rounds. The spell effect has no assigned .SPL file in the game, and isn't actually a spell in the arcane, innate or divine library - just a spell effect. It has a 40-foot range and can only affect one creature. As the effect is not magical, it is also unaffected by Dispel Magic effects.

With the addition of the horns, the Helm of the Rock is even more powerful. Generals and military leaders can command both fear and respect simply by wearing this helm.
