Helmet of Brilliance

This helm is made of polished steel and set with diamonds, rubies and fire opals. The gems glow with an internal light, the source of which can only be magical. The helm makes the wearer resistant to fire as well as giving the wearer some spell abilities. These include fireball, prismatic spray and the sunray.

Gameplay[]

  • The three spells contained in the helmet are cast as fast as it takes to drink a potion – there is no extra spell casting time.
  • The Fireball and Prismatic Ray are cast at the arcane spellcasting level of the helmet's user. When they don't have a mage spellbook, they cast at level 1, meaning a minimum damage Fireball (5d6). Prismatic Ray doesn't scale with level.
  • The Sunray is cast at the user's divine spellcasting level. Without access to priest spells, the default caster level translates to 14d6 damage to undead from the scaling part of that spell. If a divine magic user wields this blade and casts the spell from the helm, the users casting level is scaled upwards if above the default level.
  • Invoker/Fighters, Invoker/Clerics and Invoker/Thieves apply a save penalty when using both the Sunray and Fireball charge abilities. Meanwhile, Conjurer/Fighters, Conjurer/Clerics and Conjurer/Thieves apply a save penalty to Prismatic Spray.

Bugs[]

  • As of BG2EE 2.6.6.0, several items that cast area-of-effect spells can't be aimed at the ground and require creature targets: Cone of Cold via the White Dragon Scale, Dispel Magic via Purifier, Prismatic Spray via the Helm of Brilliance. This is identified for correction in the pending Enhanced Edition Fix Pack mod (EEFP). Ref: (chan20.itm, comps65.itm, helm16.itm, sw1h65.itm)
