The Hell Hound is a creature that was provided in the original game's files, but then not used in the game release.
The Unfinished Business for BG2 mod restored it to the game, and several Hell Hounds are added as encountered enemy creatures in two areas during Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition.
Gameplay[]
These infernal creatures are always ferocious enemies and immediately attack.
The beasts use the Dire Wolf sprite but are provide with a boosted movement speed - and they innately can See the invisible.
Fire damage will heal these hounds, but otherwise they are still animals that can be hurt by other damage types, including normal weapons.
Their bite is regarded as a +2 enchanted weapon for the purposes of what it can strike, with 1 foot range and a zero Speed Factor - inflicting 1d10 Piercing damage, plus their Strength bonus.
About every three rounds the hound can fire it's fiery Breath weapon, which uses the same AoE and projectile as the Burning Hands spell, inflicting 8 Fire damage. The breath weapon has a 1 Power level and can be blocked by Magic resistance. A save vs. Breath will half the damage, but the weapon is not assigned to any school of magic, nor does it have a secondary magic type.
