Greater Wolfweres are similar in look to the more common wolfwere but are significantly stronger and regenerate at a very fast pace. As if that weren't enough, only magical silver weapons can hurt them in Baldur's Gate I, and all elemental damage is halved except poison damage.

In Baldur's Gate II, any magical weapon can hurt them, but they have 50% magic resistance and regenerate 20% faster.

Gameplay[]

Tactics[]

With a maximum HP of only 66, the Greater Wolfwere's high regeneration can be overcome with a burst of damage. Backstab could be quite effective in that regard, coupled with magical damage as coming from spells such as Magic Missile, Skull Trap or Cause Serious Wounds. Magic resistance may get in the way in Baldur's Gate II, but many more weapons are effective in that opus. To increase the amount of physical damage dealt over a single round, disabling attacks such as Blindness, Slow, Wand of Paralyzation, and others can help, but the beast has very good saving throws.

Locations[]

Tales of the Sword Coast[]

  • The only greater wolfwere found in the game is Karoug who is located on the captain's deck of the Wandering Eye. A separate infobox with stats that are specific for this greater wolfwere creature file (WOLFWEGR.cre) is included on his page.
  • The creature file (WOLFGR01.cre) is used for Gorion's Ward and all party members when they are exposed to the effects of Lycanthropy and transform into greater wolfwere form if the time limit for killing Mendas isn't met.

This icon indicates content from all games of the 2nd Baldur's Gate instalment – all editions and expansions. This may include The Black Pits II.
A bug limits their regeneration in the second opus, to an effective 6 HP/s instead of 10.
