Goodberry is a 2nd level priest spell that permanently creates 5 edible good berries.
Description[]
| “ | Casting a Goodberry spell creates 5 magical berries that the caster can carry with them. Each berry restores 1 Hit Point when eaten. | ” |
Gameplay[]
This spell is cast on self only - with a brief lighting animation and a sound effect.
When the spell is finished, the caster's general Inventory receives a stack of 5 Good Berry items.
If the caster's inventory is full, then the stack of berries is placed on the ground at the caster's feet, appearing as a cluster of purple colored fruit.
The berry cluster can be divided up into smaller numbers of berry stacks and transferred between party members if desired.
Place a berry(s) in a character's "Quick Item" slot and click on it to consume one - the berry eater will be healed by 1 hit point with a brief healing lighting effect and color glow rendered on their sprite, as well as a text displayed, reading "gulp" and a sound effect.
The berry stack size is limited to 10, and they have a base 3 gold piece value each if selling them to a vendor that buys that sort of item.
Trivia[]
The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition spell Goodberry differs in several ways from the BG video game version.
In the PnP ruleset, casting a goodberry spell upon a handful of freshly picked berries makes 2d4 of them magical. The caster (as well as any other caster of the same faith and 3rd or higher level) can immediately discern which berries are affected.
A detect magic spell discovers this also. Berries with the magic either enable a hungry creature of approximately man size to eat one and be as well-nourished as if a full normal meal were eaten, or else cure 1 point of physical damage from wounds or other similar causes, subject to a maximum of 8 points of such curing in any 24-hour period.
The reverse of the spell, badberry, causes 2d4 rotten berries to appear wholesome, but each actually delivers 1 point of poison damage (no saving throw) if ingested.

Casting a Goodberry spell creates 5 magical berries that the caster can carry with him or give to others. These berries initially cure 1 point of physical damage for each one eaten. For every three levels of experience, the berries heal one additional point of damage (to a maximum of 7 points at level 18). The berries last for 8 hours, or until eaten.
Bugs[]
As of BG2EE 2.6, Goodberries should not play the *gulp* string when used as they are not potions. This is identified and corrected in The Enhanced Edition Fixpack (EEFP). Ref: (gberry.itm)
