Giant Trolls are giant humanoid creatures in Baldur's Gate II.

As a result of cross-breeding Trolls with Hill Giants, they are taller than regular trolls, but keep the slender, hunched figure and the disproportionately long arms, characteristic for the species. They are also not very diverse statistically from other trolls, being able to regenerate quickly and, once brought to "almost dead" status, falling into a stupor and becoming impervious to all damage save for acid and fire. If not finished quickly with those elements, they regain their health and raise up to fight again.

Quests[]

Locations[]

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn[]

Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal[]

  • Among the creatures that may spawn upon pressing the red button of the Globe Machine located as part of the quest to obtain the Mind Key on the Watcher's Keep Final Seal level.

Gameplay[]

  • Like a normal Troll, they regenerate damage at 1 HP per second. Upon being damaged to zero or less hit points, there is a brief span of time to permanently kill the creature with either fire or magical damage, or the beast will rise again. Timing the killing blow is a must do for success.
  • Giant Trolls have a number of immunities to certain Status Effects, as shown in the info box.
Note: In their helpless state, they are more vulnerable to attacks, having both, a reduced armor class of 10 and a reduced dexterity of 9, with the latter not applying a bonus to the former anymore.[1] On the other hand, they gain several immunities while lying on the ground, namely against all magical, cold and electricity and all forms of physical damage, including missiles. From hits with Sunstone Bullets, Fire and Acid Arrows or weapons with elemental damage, only the elemental damage component is applied.

Mod content[]

Sword Coast Stratagems mod revises the Giant Troll. A default SCS AI script is assigned so that the creature will have smarter tactical behavior in combat, including opponent threat assessment and for better targeting.

The mod also places additional Giant Trolls in certain areas of the De'Arnise Keep if the Tactical Challenges for BG2 "Tougher De'Arnise Keep" component is added to your game.
