Ghoul Town is an optional area buried deep in the Pit of the Faithless, that can only be visited during the Investigate and Destroy the Cult of the Eyeless side quest if the Cult Traitor Tad has granted the party access to the pit.

Entrances[]

There are two entrances to Ghoul Town, both from the Pit of the Faithless. Outside in the pit are two ramshackle buildings: one to the northeast (a "structure..surrounded by the stench of decay and filth"), and one to the northwest ( a "crude dwelling..perched precariously over the abyss below").

Entering from the western side places you right before a silent trigger that spans the whole middle section. Crossing it spawns a level-dependent group of undead up beyond the three steps on the north side.[1]

Entering from the eastern side lands you on the upper-east platform of Ghoul Town.

Mayor of Ghoul Town[]

The inhabitants of this town have become more sophisticated and have stopped eating the living. With a steady supply of the Faithless thrown down into the pit, they have no issues sticking to their diet... as long as they're not confronted with "the good stuff", that is.

Here you will be addressed by Mayor Theshal (1155.685) who is neutral at the moment:

"Hsss! Why do you come amongst usss? I begsss you to leave! The sssmell...the sssmell of food makesss usss wild!"

You might have only one chance to ask a question before Mayor Teshal loses his very limited self-control and turns hostile:

"...the...sssmell...it isss too much! I cannot ssstand it any moresss!! HsssSSS!!"

One line of questioning is to ask: "Tell us where the passage to the beholder lair is and I'll be out of your hair quickly enough."

"You...wantsss to sssee the Great Feeder?"

Followed by: "The...Great Feeder? If you're referring to the one who throws you down all the dead bodies then, yes, I suppose so."

"The...the Great Feeder isss beyond the bridge, he isss...we goesss there to ssserve him and cleansss him..."

Teshal is flanked by a Zombie and a Ghoul Lord.

Layout[]

Below the Mayor's platform to the southwest is a larger area with another Zombie and Ghoul Lord.

To the northwest, are three steps leading to the third and final area. It contains a spawn point that activates only once, and produce a group of Mummies (×3) and Ghasts (×2).[2]

If the silent trigger below was activated, it spawns an additional, different group of undead depending upon current experience points accrued by Gorion's Ward.[1]

Containers[]

There are three containers in this area.
