Ghasts are more dangerous versions of ghouls, capable of not only paralyzing opponents like their lesser kin but also causing them to feel nauseated. When more than one is encountered, they can be quite dangerous to very low-level parties and are best fought with ranged weapons and spells.

Trivia[]

  • The offical website for the original game, now archived, had – in addition to some combat-related statistics – the following information about ghasts:[1]

These creatures are so like ghouls as to be completely indistinguishable from them, and they are usually found only with a pack of ghouls. When a pack of ghouls and ghasts attacks it will quickly become evident that ghasts are present, for they exude a carrion stench in a 10' radius which cause[sic] retching and nausea unless a save vs. Poison is made.

The size was given as 5 to 6 feet tall.
