Baldur's Gate Wiki

The city of Baldur's Gate is full of generic homes which do not serve much purpose in the overall story. This list contains information on any home not already named in-game or without a central defining occupant who owns the house (e.g. Fenten's Home, Gantolandan's Home, etc.).

One convenient method of differentiating between these homes is referring to them by their internal area codes as defined by the game's developers. However, the game developers didn't always follow any type of definitive pattern specific to these generic homes when assigning area codes to the homes. The infobox to the right has an area image of North Baldur's Gate that identifies every generic home by its corresponding number in the infobox name.

Unless otherwise specified, assume that NPCs carry nothing, containers are unlocked, and that NPCs will call the Flaming Fist if they witness the party looting their containers. Locks all have a specific difficulty class for a thief to be able to open them, referred to here as the lock's(DC).

Generic Home  (AR0008/AR0009)[]

This house is located in a row of three houses that are situated in front of the Ducal Palace. It is the house on the near-end, closest to the front gates of the Palace, and Rinnie's Home is the middle house on the right side. The front door is locked(30).

The ground floor is populated by a male commoner who carries 5gp. He will not call the Flaming Fist if the party loots his nearby chest, which is empty.

The second floor is populated at all hours of the day by a sleeping man. The nightstand on the right contains 5gp and the other one contains 3gp. The chest at the foot of his bed is locked(50) and contains 9gp, a Heavy Crossbow, ten Bolts, and six Bolt +1.

Note: The next three houses are all located behind the Ducal Palace, between the Temple of Helm and Ramazith's Tower.

Generic Home  (AR0012/AR0013)[]

This house faces the rear of the palace with Jardak's Home on the right side and another generic house on the left. The front door is unlocked.

The ground floor is populated by a young boy. The table in the kitchen is locked(40) and contains a Dagger and 11gp.

The second floor is devoid of any commoners. In the smaller bedroom, the nightstand between the two beds contains a Jade Ring and 9gp and the one in the corner contains 5gp. In the bigger bedroom, the nightstand on the right contains a Fire Agate Gem and the other one is empty. The chest of drawers is locked(40) and contains a Potion of Stone Form and 20gp. The bookshelf contains a copy of the History of the Dales and the Elven Court.

Generic Home  (AR0014/AR0015)[]

This house is the "T-shaped" house that faces the tower and a second generic house is on its left. The unlocked front door is not visible.

The ground floor is populated by a male commoner who carries 5gp. The table in the living room contains 4gp.

The second floor is populated by a young girl. In the smaller bedroom during the night there is a sleeping woman in the bed near the wall. The nightstand between the beds contains a Throwing Dagger and 5gp and the one in the corner is empty. Oddly enough, the girl will have no problem with the party looting every container on this floor except the nightstand in the smaller bedroom with the loot. In the bigger bedroom, the nightstand on the right contains 11gp and the other one is empty. The chest of drawers is locked(40) and contains 25gp and an Andar Gem. The bookshelf contains a copy of the History of the North VII.

Generic Home  (AR0016/AR0017)[]

This house is located next to the house above and also faces Ramazith's Tower. Due to the position of the house there isn't a visible door to enter, just a general entrance area with no lock on it.

The ground floor is populated by a male commoner who carries 5gp. He will not call the guards if the party loots his bookshelves, which contain copies of the History of Shadowdale VI and History of Shadowdale VII, but will raise the alarm if they loot his chest which contains 3gp and a Large Shield.

The second floor is populated at night by two sleeping women. The chest of drawers is empty, and the two bookshelves contain copies of the History of Waterdeep V and History of Waterdeep VI.

Note: These next two houses are located north of Ramazith's Tower.

Generic Home  (AR0018/AR0019)[]

This house is the one visible to the left of the tower. The front door is locked(30).

The ground floor is populated by a female commoner, a male commoner carrying 5gp, and a young boy carrying 1gp. Among the three containers in the living room, the chest of drawers to the left of the fireplace (locked(50)) will not trigger a call to the guards if the party loots it, most likely because it is empty. The chest of drawers to the right of the fireplace is locked(50) and contains 23gp and a Potion of Explosions. The armoire is locked(40) and contains Leather Armor and 7gp.

The second floor is devoid of commoners. The chest of drawers is locked(50) and contains 8gp and a Rainbow Obsidian Necklace.

Generic Home  (AR0020/AR0021)[]

This house is the one visible to the right of the tower. The front door is locked(30).

The ground floor is populated by a female commoner. She will not call the guards if the party loots her bookshelves, which contain copies of the History of the Dragon Coast and History of the Ulgarth. The chest is locked(70) and contains 10gp and a Small Shield +1.

The second floor is populated at night by two sleeping men. The chest of drawers is locked(50) and contains a Mace, a Jasper Gem, and a Potion of Heroism. The bookshelves contain copies of the History of Waterdeep II and History of Waterdeep III.
