The town of Beregost is full of generic homes which do not serve much purpose in the overall story. This list contains information on any home not already named in-game or without a central defining occupant who owns the house (e.g. Firebead's Home, Mirianne's Home, etc.).

One convenient method of differentiating between these homes is referring to them by their internal area codes as defined by the game's developers. All twenty-three homes are listed below in sequential order by their area code. However, the game developers didn't always follow any type of definitive pattern specific to these generic homes when assigning area codes to the homes. The infobox to the right has an area image of Beregost that identifies every generic home by its corresponding number in the infobox name.

Unless otherwise specified, assume that NPCs carry nothing, containers are unlocked, and that NPCs will call the Flaming Fist if they witness the party looting their containers. Locks all have a specific difficulty class for a thief to be able to open them, referred to here as the lock's(DC).

Some of the commoner's present in the homes are given actual names; either gleaned through dialogue or from the greeting choice in the sound dialogue section in the creatures game file. Most of these are not "true stand-alone" characters who are given their own named creature file. Exceptions include Alain along with Mr. Colquetle and his Butler. The rest are just typical commoners with names.

  • ask you to leave.
I am Borland of Beregost. Why this is of import to you I don't know. It's information easily gleaned from a casual meeting on the street and hardly worth barging into my home for. Please leave and spare me the effort of learning to dislike you.

The chest next to the first bed is locked(30) and contains a Battle Axe. The chest between the two beds is locked(30) and contains a Silver Necklace. The chest of drawers is empty.

When [[Charmed}charmed]] all he will say is:

  • introduce himself as Galteran and provide you with some rather mundane information about his current situation then kindly ask you to leave.
Well, hello there. Not too sure what you expected to find in here, but perhaps you have come to the wrong house by mistake. I am Galteran, and I was just doing a bit of cleaning in the spare time I find myself with. Not much call for my grunt-type labor right now, what with caravans staying away. *sigh* Ah, well. Best be on your way, please.
  • ask you to leave.
By all the saints, who are you and what are you doing in my home?! Leave at once! I do not wish to call the guards, but I will if I must!

If you charm him, he'll provide the following:

The only thing I know of that might pique you interest are the rumors I've heard of an abandoned wizard's school to the east. I couldn't tell you where it is, but it's supposed to overflow with magical treasure.

which leads to the a Journal entry in the quest section under the title "The Wizard's School"

We charmed a man named Galteran. He told us that there was an abandoned wizard school to the east, and that there was much treasure to be found there.

Ahh! You scared me! I wasn't takin' anything! Honest! I was just checking out the house, that's all. Someone's got to watch over the place, 'cuz I am SURE they will come back. The Greycarts only went to Baldur's Gate to visit and they should be back already. I'm gonna wait right here till they do.
Nice house, huh? My buddy is Dason Greycart, and he says his daddy makes good money as a merchant. Not so much nowadays, I guess. Especially if he don't come back soon. He's got customers here waitin' for him. I'll wait right here and help him unload, like I always do.
Leave me alone! You're mean!

And when charmed, he says the following:

There should be some good money hidden away in this house. Just tear the place apart, I'm sure you'll find something.
