Freeing the Djinni is a side quest in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn.

Acquisition[]
- After you have found the Air Elemental Statue, use it to open the locked portal on the first floor of Irenicus's Dungeon.
- Enter the Elemental Plane of Air.
Gameplay[]
After exploring, you will observe a genie's lamp on a table. Examine it and then activate it - and genie named Malaaq will appear before you.
He will relay that he has something of yours, but he cannot give it to you until his Flask is back in his possession. Agree to find it for him if you desire. It is optional, and the player can decide to skip this quest, although that will prevent future expereince points and a return of one of your items. If you agree, a journal entry will display:
- "Freeing the djinni: To retrieve what is in possession of the djinni Malaaq, I must first secure his release by obtaining the twin to the flask he is bound to. He informed me that the flask is kept close to his master... either in his chambers or in the possession of some dryads or golems."
One of Irenicus' Captive Dryads, Elyme has The Genie's Flask, or so the Djinni surmises.
If the party is already in possession of the Acorns, then this is good. If not, they'll be needed later.
Once the flask is obtained, return to the genie and he'll sense that you have it and engage in more dialogue. A reward will be bestowed.
The closing Journal entry will display:
- "Freeing the djinni: I freed the genie Malaaq by retrieving a flask from three dryads and giving it to him. In return, he returned some equipment that he was keeping in storage for the wizard Irenicus."
Rewards[]
Malaaq will be pleased, and the party will receive 15,000 XP and an enchanted weapon. In
