Flesh to Stone turns the flesh of, and all items carried by, the target creature to stone. For defense against the spell, see article petrified.

Effects[]

Flesh to Stone
This spell turns flesh of any sort to stone. All possessions on the person of the creature likewise turn to stone. The intended subject of the spell receives a Saving Throw vs. Spell to avoid the effect. If a statue created by this spell is subjected to attacks of any sort, it will shatter into tiny pieces, making it impossible for the creature to be returned to flesh. The reverse of this spell, Stone to Flesh, may be cast upon the victim in order to restore life, but this is the only way.

Gameplay[]

When a party member is turned to stone with this spell, they will be automatically removed from the party. If their stone statue is then destroyed (which can happen through any kind of damage, physical or magical), there is no way to get that character back to life. If the statue remains intact, one may cast Stone to Flesh to cure them, and they can be asked to rejoin the party. However if the main character is affected, it's instantly game over.

Flesh to Stone
Level: 6
School: Alteration
Range: Long
Duration: Special
Casting Time: 6
Area of Effect: 1 creature
Saving Throw: Special
Flesh to Stone is a powerful magic that permanently turns the flesh of the creature affected into stone. When struck by this spell the target is slowed for 3 rounds as its flesh begins to harden. The following round the subject of the spell must save vs. petrification at -4 or be turned into a statue. A dispel magic spell cannot restore the victim’s natural form, but some powerful spells, such as Stone to Flesh or Freedom, can. This spell has no effect on undead, constructs, or incorporeal creatures.

Note:SR has included specific immunity to petrification for certain creatures coded within the spell's inner opcodes, for a better and consistent application of the spell description.
