Flesh Golems are magical constructs created by mages.
Gameplay[]
They are immune to normal weapons but can be harmed with any magical weapon. Examples of enchanted missiles include Arrow +2, Bullet +1 and the throwing axe Beruel's Retort +1.
Their morale is harder to break than most enemies in Baldur's Gate and they are immune to elemental cold and electricity damage, resist magic at 100%, and are immune to backstab. They have a very low THAC0 as compared to other enemies in the game and may prove a challenge to low or intermediate level parties (Level 1-4).
However, they are susceptible to poison in the original Baldur's Gate and Bolt of Biting works very well. They have been given immunity to poison in the Enhanced Edition. As flesh golems are 125% resistant to electricity damage, they can actually be healed by that type of damage.
Though they may seem formidable to the inexperienced adventurer, they are in fact the weakest of all golems and mostly appear in several locations in Baldur's Gate in their Ogrillion form. Because the characters in the The Black Pits and Shadows of Amn are too powerful, they were given an upgrade in appearance to a Clay Golem, which increased their movement rate from 66% to 144%.
Locations[]
In Baldur's Gate they are found in the High Hedge Estate, in a cave in the Lighthouse area, and on Labyrinth Level One of Durlag's Tower.
In the Enhanced Edition they are summoned by Baeloth in the final battle in The Black Pits after Ghlouralk has been killed.
In Shadows of Amn two flesh golems are found in a secret room on the second floor of the de'Arnise Keep.
Inside Watcher's Keep on the Altar Level there is a manual to be found that will summon a Flesh Golem once per day to fight for the summoner.
Combat[]
Flesh golems are equipped with two undroppable items:
- The first is a ring that provides the creature with immunity to non-magical weapons.
- The second is the weapon used for melee attack. The weapon has a +3 enchantment with a range of 1 and speed 0. It inflicts 2d8 crushing damage with a +7 strength bonus. The item also provides the flesh golem with the following immunities:
- Immunity to Poison effects
- Immunity to Sleep and Unconsciousness effects
- Immunity to Hold and Paralyze effects
- Immunity to Fear, Horror, Panic, Morale Failure effects
- Immunity to Charm and Domination effects
- Immunity to Backstabbing
Flesh golems are immune to standard missiles (arrows/bullets) but not immune to magical ones.

Baldur's Gate (1998)
This icon indicates content from the original Baldur's Gate campaign.
Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast (1999)
This icon indicates content from the original Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast campaign. As the race golem was only introduced in the original Shadows of Amn, flesh golems in the original Baldur's Gate and its expansion Tales of the Sword Coast are handled as being either humans or of no race. The same applies to their class, which is none.
- In addition to the above mentioned, the two flesh golems at High Hedge Estate are classified as male humanoids, not Giant humanoids of neither sex.
Mod content[]
This section is about unofficial content that is only available via fan-made mods.
The Sword Coast Stratagems mod and the installation of the "AI Enhancement's" component improves many aspects of creatures encountered in the game. In regard to golems, the mod implements the following:
Improved Golems (BG2, BG2EE, BGT/EET)
This component doesn't really make golems smarter (they're supposed to be stupid) But it streamlines their scripts a bit, gives their weapons a sensible range, makes them immune to Lower Resistance and to poison, and tries to prevent situations where golems get stuck behind barricades. It also fixes an animation glitch in the Iron Golem animation - this hopefully makes iron golems a bit prettier when they attack and blow clouds.
With this component the flesh golem is immune to the following spells and status effects: Web, Entangle. Plant Growth, Paralyze, Poison damage, Poison, Lower Resistance, Pierce Magic, and Pierce Shield.
This golem now has a melee attack range reach of 2, instead of the unmodified creature's range of 1.
