Flasher Master Bruiser Mates are a special type of ammunition, ostensibly for Jan Jansen's crossbow, the Flasher Launcher. These bolts appear in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition.

Description[]

This is the ammunition for Jan's crossbow (the Flasher Master Bruiser). These skulls are filled with a special powder that does a little bit of damage and has a chance to stun an opponent (saving throw vs. spells or be stunned for 2 rounds).

Gameplay[]

While these are designed for the Flasher Launcher, Jan Jansen can use them with any equipped crossbow. Only Jan can use them. Even the Use Any Item ability won't allow their use.

The "skull projectiles" must be aimed and fired at a single target. When they strike a target the "flasher" ammunition actually exposes the target to a potential Stun effect lasting 12 seconds.

The projectile (No. 240) only affects enemies and not the party, and that is important because the projectile has a small area of effect when a successful hit is made. Enemy creatures in close proximity may also get exposed to the missile damage and flash stun effect. The AoE is about five game feet in all directions from the target creature.

Those creatures exposed to the flash stun must make a Saving throw versus Spell or be stunned for 2 rounds. While stunned they'll be immobile and are regarded as Helpless.

The on-screen combat log message will display a text string "Stunned" for each creature that fails the saving throw. Additionally, a lighting effect and a color fade animation effect will render over the those who failed the save. No sound effect is included in the flashers burst.

The flasher ammunition stun-burst powder is non-magical and bypasses Magic resistance and has 0 (zero) Power level, so it will ignore spell protections like Minor Globe of Invulnerability or Spell Trap. The Stun effect is also not subject to Dispel Magic effects, although it only lasts a short time.

This ammunition is designed as a magical +1 Enchanted item for the purposes of what it can strike.
