Firkraag's Entrance is accessible from the Windspear Hills, and marked as "Dungeon Entrance" on the player's Automap Notes. It is the first part of a three-part dungeon that appears to be the remains of an unidentified ancient monastery/temple complex that was constructed long ago within a rocky hillside in the northeast part of the area. The outside entrance to the monastery is marked by two opposing statues, depicting the head and serpentine neck of a golden dragon, that flank the entrance itself.
This entrance area leads to the debris-strewn, dilapidated monastery itself. A lower level, accessed from the northwestern section of the monastery area, leads to the hideout, where the red dragon Firkraag is found.
Layout[]
A short column-lined hallway abruptly opens to what might be best described as a massively wide, stalagmite-filled tunnel that terminates at a huge pit where "some time ago, a large creature burned and dug its way down" and "the faint stench of carrion wafts up from the hole".
Along the southwestern wall of this tunnel is a small cave that's also full of stalagmites as well as a small pool of water. The hallway picks up on the far side of the tunnel area, opposite from the cave entrance. At the end of the hallway is an unlocked door that leads to the monastery.
Within the cavern are four hidden spawn points. These generate different groups of enemies. For example, one produces a Hobgoblin group. Another spawns various Ogrillions. Near the pools of water can be encountered Vampiric Mist and Crimson Death creatures. These spawn points will recur if the party exits this area and returns again at a later time.
Containers[]
There are two non-visible "containers" in the cavern. If found and examined, there is some available random and fixed loot to be found.
Gameplay[]
Upon entry from the Windspear Hills area on the surface, the party will be confronted by a mixed group of Hobgoblin guardians and Chieftain DigDag. Some shouted dialogue ensues, and the hobgoblins attack. The Chieftan makes a strategic withdrawal to warn his master of your incursion into the complex.
Exploration of this cavern is an interesting interlude. Some beneficial loot can be obtained, as well as a clue about how something huge and terrible was actually able to physically enter this underground abandoned monastery. The enemies listed in the paragraph below are shown, and the usual numbers of each encountered.
At the North side of the cavern is a doorway leading to the actual abandoned monastery, although there is no Automap Note designated. It is guarded by a sinister Ruhk Transmuter and his Kamikaze Kobold minions. Check the articles for details.
The party will need to work its way through several groups of opponents before clearing out the cavern, and of course, getting a free path to the doorway that leads to Firkraag's Maze area. This is the beginning of a classic "dungeon crawl" - enjoy the danger and excitement adventurer.
Be careful with the various Mist creatures encountered. If not familiar with any of the abilities or powers of enemies found within, go the individual creature pages for a summary.

Mod content[]
- This section is about unofficial content that is only available via fan-made mods.
Installation of the Sword Coast Stratagems Mod makes some changes to select creature scripts, an example is the Rukh Transmuter and Vampiric Mists. The Smarter Mage Component boost the Rukh's spell casting choices and intelligent spell use, as well as the Hobgoblin spell casters. There may be some additional creatures such as Orc barbarians opponents as well. Chieftan DigDag gets a new script, a berserker kit, innate Enrage use, and weapon proficiencies assigned.
The Golem Construction for Spellcasters mod places a component in one of the hidden containers in the cavern. A component that can be used in the construction of a particular variety of golem. Don't miss out and pick up this item. Its why you installed the mod after all.
