Disambiguation icon Not to be confused with Firetooth (dagger).

Firetooth +4 is an enchanted light crossbow which does not require ammunition, but instead creates magical bolts of fire +4, which inflict 2 points of fire damage. It can still fire chosen projectiles in the quiver, if the wielder wants this. The crossbow itself adds 1d8 +4 points of damage, has +6 THAC0 bonus (+4 from the crossbow, +2 from the bolts) and a weight of 5 lbs. The weapon has a speed factor of 1 and it fires one projectile per round. This item appears in Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal. It can be bought from Sister Garlena on the top of Watcher's Keep. Cespenar can upgrade this weapon to +5 when he is given the Bowstring of Gond and 5,000 gold.

Description

Firetooth (crossbow)

One of the most powerful crossbows in the realms, Firetooth has no need for ammunition as it automatically launches magical arrows of fire.

Upgraded[]

Firetooth +5 is an enchanted light crossbow which does not require ammunition, but instead creates magical bolts of fire +5, which inflict 2 points of fire damage. The crossbow itself adds 1d8+5 points of damage, it has +7 THAC0 bonus (+5 from the crossbow, +2 from the bolts). The weight, speed factor and rate of fire are not improved.

Description[]

Firetooth (crossbow)

The magical bowstring of Gond makes even the Firetooth Crossbow's enchanted missiles more accurate and more powerful. Firetooth will only fire these enchanted missiles, so there is no need for ammunition.

Bugs[]

Launchers that generate their own ammo (e.g. Gesen's Bow or the Firetooth crossbow) would override the projectile of loaded ammo, meaning it could interact with the target protections incorrectly. This is identified and corrected in The Enhanced Edition Fixpack (EEFP).
