The Fire Storm spell creates a storm of fire spanning a roughly 15-foot radius that deals fire damage with no saving throw. Be aware that it can affect all creatures in the Area of Effect, friend or foe.
Description[]
| “ | When a Fire Storm spell is cast, the whole area is shot through with sheets of roaring flame and then pelted with fiery balls of lava. Creatures within the area of effect receive 2d8 points of damage plus 1 per level of the caster (i.e. 2d8 + 1/level). This assault will last for 4 rounds and will continue to do damage to the creature during that time unless it moves out of the area of effect. There is no Saving Throw. | ” |
Gameplay[]
The caster designates a point on the area map where the center of the fire storm will propagate from, using the targeting cursor, and clicks/selects the point.
When the spell casting is complete the storm begins, centered on the selected spot, and rains down lava and flame in a 15-foot radius for a four-round duration.
Any creatures in the area of effect will be exposed to a minimum of 2d8+14 Fire damage per round of exposure, and it can rise to as much as 2d8+20 based on the caster's level.
Moving outside the area of effect will prevent exposure, and entering the storm puts a creature at risk.
The storm's damage is unaffected by Magic resistance.
A creature protected by Spell Immunity: Evocation will be immune to this spell, as will a character equipped with the Cloak of Mirroring.
Once this spell is cast, it can't be cancelled by the caster, nor removed by any means from the battlefield, and the spell must run its course.
Notes[]
The range of this spell is erroneously listed as 120 feet in the spell description, but mechanically, the actual coded range limit of the spell is 80-feet. From a practical standpoint, the visual range of the caster is more applicable which is around 26 feet without mods.
Trivia[]
The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition Fire Storm Priest spell the whole area is shot through with sheets of roaring flame that equal a Wall of Fire spell in effect.
The PnP spell version has a potentially larger and configurable area of effect.
This spell is reversible as well and can be used to cast Quench Fire instead, useful to smother a blaze or to weaken fiery creatures such as a salamander or fire elemental.
