Baldur's Gate Wiki

The Fire Giant is a male giant fighter enemy NPC found in the North Forest area during Chapter Eight.

There are four of these warriors, and they are "spawned" on the map triggered by the party crossing hidden proximity zones on the steppingstones and bridge.

Gameplay[]

The giant is labelled "Fire Giant"; and this particular one is melee range attacking combatant only, wielding its massive war hammer, which is a +3 Enchanted item, and has a reach range of 2, same as a spear, and applies extra fire damage.

The giant moves to target the nearest enemy it can detect and fights until the death or as long as its morale holds up.

The game has implemented the D&D penalty to giants when they attempt to hit certain "short" races, such as Dwarves, Gnomes, and Halflings - as such the giant has a 4-point THAC0 penalty against those opponents.

Fire Giants aren't harmed by fire, and this variety can actually be healed if subjected to it.

Although assigned a Berserker kit, the creature gains no special abilities from it, and it isn't leveraged during gameplay.

The Sword Coast Stratagems mod makes a few minor revisions to this fire giant, starting with a new general and default fighter AI scripts, and 5-points in War hammer weapon proficiency and 2-points with single-weapon fighting style.

The berserker kit is utilized, and the giant will enable it's Enrage ability, perhaps more than once depending on how long the battle lasts.

Additionally, the creature has uses of scripted High-level class ability for fighters, such as Hardiness, or Whirlwind Attack, or even Greater Whirlwind Attack.

The mod furnishes the giant with a pair of random potions for buffing purposes or to heal wounds.
